RANSOMVILLE, N.Y. — A strong crowd filled the grandstands Friday night as Ransomville Speedway hosted its 14th round of the 2026 season and honored local racing legend Pete Bicknell with his induction into the Wall of Honor. All five weekly divisions were in action on a night presented by IMA and Hardison Funeral Homes, producing a full slate of racing and one of the most dramatic heat race incidents of the year. The moment that stunned the crowd came during the Krown Undercoating Modified heats when Kyle Richner was involved in contact off Turn 2 and launched into a violent series of flips down the backstretch. Richner’s car tumbled end over end at least five times before coming to rest. Despite the severity of the crash, he climbed out under his own power, drawing a loud ovation. In the Ki Po Chevrolet Street Stocks, ten cars took the green for 20 laps. James Henry dominated early before a caution erased his advantage and brought Chase Kish into contention. Kish made the winning move in the closing laps, and post-race tech added another twist when Henry was disqualified, elevating Brandon Sherwood to second and Mike Welch to third. Kish’s third win of the season tightens the championship battle, leaving him eight points behind Sherwood. The Sunflowers of Sanborn Mini Stocks saw eleven cars battle for 15 laps, highlighted by a four-car fight among Cody Griffin, Cole Susice, Jeffrey Wynes, and Ben Hornquist. Hornquist’s strong run ended when his front wheel separated from the car, triggering a caution. On the restart, Griffin pulled away to earn his second win of the season. Wynes’ third-place finish, combined with Hornquist’s DNF, extends his points lead to 54. Seventeen cars answered the call for the Stirling Lubricants Sportsman Modifieds 25-lap feature. Kyle Teeter led early before Tyler Foster took command and held off challenges from Cameron Tuttle and Jacob Bansmer. Foster secured his first career Sportsman Modified victory and moved to seventh in points. Tuttle finished second, while Cody McPherson slipped to a 54-point deficit after a quiet night. The Krown Undercoating 358 Modifieds headlined the evening with fifteen cars set for 30 laps. Steven Lewis and Dave Flannigan battled early until Flannigan clipped a tractor tire, handing Lewis the lead. From there, Mat Williamson and Gary Lindberg charged from deep in the field, overtaking Lewis and Susice as they marched forward. With ten laps remaining, the race became a family showdown between Williamson and Lindberg, with Williamson prevailing for his seventh win of the season as he continues to pad his points lead. The night concluded with the J&D Tires Novice Sportsman Modifieds, where eight cars took the green for 12 laps. Jacob Flynn led every lap until the final drag race off Turn 4, where Robert Henning edged him at the line to steal the victory by mere feet. Russell Farr III (99), Derrick Counter (75), and Trevor Hulbert (17h) battle for a top ten spot through turn four as they went three wide. It would be time for the 60th season anniversary to get underway at the Devil's Bowl Speedway. There would be 6 divisions in action on the night but the main attraction would be the first ever apperance of the Dirtcar 358 Modified Series as they would go 60 laps and the winer taking home $5,000 also in action on the evening would be the Sunoco Sportsman Modified, O'Reily Auto Parts Limited Sportsman Modified, Hoosier Tire Novice Sportsman Modified, Friend Construction 500cc Mini Sprints and the Fisher Auto Parts Mini Stocks. After all the heat racing and qualifying were done, the first main of the season would be the Friend Construction 500cc Mini Sprints for 20 laps. It would see Tyler Whittemore get the lead off the start of the race, but it would be short-lived, as Scott Bachand would soon take the top spot, and, from there, wouldn't be touched, capturing the first win of the season. Then it would be time for the Sunoco Sportsman Modified Shootout, 20 laps, $1,000 to win, and it would see Justin Comes start on the pole, and he would not be bumped off the top spot even though he would have a challenge for the lead from Josh Sunn, but Comes would hold on and cash in the $1,000 and get his season started right. Then it would be time for the main event of the evening with the first-ever showing of the Dirtcar 358 Modified Series at the Devil's Bowl Speedway in the King of the Clay for 60 laps and $5,000 to the winner. It would see Tim Fuller jump out to the lead. Still, he would have challenges from Alex Payne and Matt Williamson, and on a restart around lap 20, Matt Williamson would pinch Fuller low and drive by him on the top to take the lead, and from there he would go on to win and take the $5,000 check. Still, he would have a stiff combination from Alex Payne for the win. This would be the second stop on the tour, and Mike Mahaney would take the points lead by 2 over Alex Payne as they head into the third round on May 14th at the Airborne Park Speedway. Then we would have the O'Reilly Auto Parts Limited Sportsman Modified for 25 laps, with an early race battle between Michael Danforth and Logan Denis. Eventually, Denis would get around him for the lead, and he would ride that to the checkered flag, but he would have some late-race heat from Gary English. Then it would be onto the Fisher Auto Parts Mini Stocks, which, due to having 32, would be split into two features, and in the first one, it would be a family affair for most of the night between father and son, Jeremy Brownell Sr. and Jr., and on this night, the win would go to the father. Then the second feature would feature a battle between Kaleb Shepard and Damien Olden, but in the end, Kaleb Shepard would win. Then it would be time for the final race of the night in the Hoosier Tire Novice Sportsman Modified, and it would see Robert Steves go wire-to-wire for the win.
