Short Track Super Series Showdown at Sundown on the Boarder 50 @ Mohawk International Raceway August 6th, 2024

It would be Matt Sheppard taking home the $10,000 to win tonight over Stewart Friesen and Chris Raabe as they pose for their podium picture. It would be the north stop on the River Valley Builders North Tour for the Short Track Super Series their 18th overall for the series and their first-ever stop to the Mohawk International Raceway they would bring 33 of the best-modified drivers along with Sportsman Modified and the Pro Stock. The Modifieds would need a Last Chance Qualifier to decide who would get the last seven spots in the field of 27 for the 50-lap event. When the main event started the odds on favorite to win on the night would be Stewart Friesen after all he was the fastest in time trials and won his heat race easily. When the race was underway it would be Friesen and David Hebert on the front row and Friesen would zoom out to the lead there would be a couple of early cautions before lap 20 and on the second one Hebert would get around Friesen for the lead but the lead would only last a few laps and Friesen would take the lead back. But there would be a rumbling from the middle of the pack as Matt Sheppard who started 13th would keep picking them off as he rolled to the front of the pack and with ten laps to go he would have Friesen in his sights and the classic rivalry would be at it again on the broader tonight. With three laps to go Sheppard came off of turn two and almost runner his night on the backstretch wall and lost a second Friesen but he hugged the bottom for the next two laps and would get Friesen at the line by about a car length for the win. Chris Raabe would round out the top three as he came from sixth place on the final lap. Then we would have 35 laps for the Pro Stockers with $1,000 going to the winner. The race would start with Ian Bresset and Zack Daniels on the front row and the early leader would be Bressett there would be a battle up front through the early stages of the race between Bressett, Burton Ward, and Denis Gauvreau but in the end, the winner would be Dakota Sharp that came up from the ninth spot to get his second win of the season over Bressett and Gauvreau. Then to finish off the night would be the Sportsman Modified as they would run the Lonewolf Sportsman Special and there would be no doubt on the winner this night as Cedric Gauvreau would say see you later to the field and rounding out the top three would be Shane Pecore and Casey Swamp.
