But then the Bears would take the inbound pass with three seconds left, and Nicholas Cortez would hit a three-pointer for the win past half court to beat the buzzer as the Bears got the 77-75 victory. In the winning effort, the Bears' Nicholas Cortez would lead the team with 27 points as they go to 3-14 on the season and head into their next game against the Morrisville State Mustangs. The game would start well for the top team in the conference as the New Paltz Hawks would have the 24-16 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the defense would step up for the Cardinals as they would hold the Hawks to just eight points, a score of their own, and tie the game at 32 as they entered the intermission. When the teams return for the third quarter, the game stays tight, as the Cardinals win the quarter 17-15 and have the 49-47 lead as they enter the fourth quarter. Also, in the third quarter, we would have a milestone event as Payton Couture would get her 1,000 points as a Cardinal. In the fourth quarter, the Hawks offense would come alive and have a 23-12 quarter as they would secure the 70-61 victory.
