Plattsburgh's (22) stuffs it from the tight angle for the Hornet's goal to keep them in the game. It would be the opening afternoon of the high school hockey season for the Plattsburgh Hornets as they would host the Niskayuna Mohawks from section II at the Ameri-Can North Sports Center. The visiting Mohawks would get the opening goal of the game just 2:20 in from Max Kenny for the 1-0 lead. Then with just about three minutes left in the period the Mohawks and Kenny would score again for the 2-0 lead to end the period. The Hornets would come out on fire in the second period and make it a one-goal game on the Brayden Calkins goal. The Hornets would keep coming and tie the game up just two minutes later. The game would stay tied for most of the period but the Mohawks would regain the one-goal lead at 3-2 on the Luca Coppola goal with just under five minutes left in the period. In the third period the offenses on both teams would come alive as they would combine for five goals with the Mohawks winning the period 3-2 scoring for the Mohawks would be Jackson Rumsey and Jack Clark (twice) as the Mohawks got the 6-4 victory. In the win, the Niskayuna Mohawks start the season 1-0 while the Plattsburgh Hornets start at 0-1. The Nisyakuna Mohawks will finish off their weekend trip to the North Country as they will take on the Beekmentown Eagles on December 3rd at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena.. Gallery

It would be the lone Section VII playoff game of the weekend as the #2 Beekmantown Eagles would host crosstown rival the #3 Plattsburgh Hornets for the right to take on the #1 Peru Nighthawks for the Section VII Class B Finals next week at Ausable Valley. The game would start off great for the Eagles as they would take a 7-0 lead just 2:30 into the game on a 65-yard strike to Josh Sands. The Eagles would keep the offense going as they would score again on their next drive to take the 14-0 lead. The Hornets would show some life halfway through the first quarter on a 72-yard scramble by Dan Hartman to cut the deficit to 14-6. Although the Eagles would regain their two-score lead at 21-6 on the 36-yard run by Louis Sweenor and that's how the first quarter would end. The Eagles would keep on the gas and score just 3 minutes into the second quarter on the 1-yard run by Peyton Viau and take the 28-6 lead. The Hornets would keep fighting and as time was nearing the end of the half Dominic Deangelo would return a pick 6 interception 95 yards to make it a two-score game again at 29-12 at the half. When the teams return for the second half the Eagles would pick up where they left off with a 8-yard run by Parker Broughton to give them a 35-12 lead just 5 minutes into the half. Then with 2 minutes left in the quarter, the Eagles would make a 28-yard field goal from Patrick Hagadorn for the 38-12 lead. The game would stay there till about three minutes left when Shamus Bibeau would score from 8 yards out for the 44-12 victory. Section VII Class A Boy's Soccer Finals: #1 Plattsburgh Hornets Vs #2 Peru Nighthawks October 26th 2023

Plattsburgh's Nick Clookey (99) with the save on Peru's Spencer Davies (3) to give the Hornets the crown in penalty kicks. It would be the Section Class A Boy's Soccer Championships from Northeastern Clinton as the #1 seeded Plattsburgh Hornets would meet up with the #2 Peru Nighthawks for the right to head to the state tournament. The Nighthawks would get the opening goal of the game just seven minutes into the game from Seanen Edwards for the 1-0 lead. The game would stay there all the way to the 61st minute of the game when the Hornets would fight back and tie the game at one on the Andrew Bula goal. That is where the game would through the rest of regulation along with the 30 extra minutes of the overtime session and there would be no winner. From there the game would head to penalty kicks and it would take to the eighth round before we had a winner. When the Hornets get the win they advance to the NYSPHSAA Class A Tournament and in the first round will face the Massena Red Raiders from Section X. In the winning effort, Nick Clooney would make 7 saves on the night and Connor Perrotte would have 6 on the night. Gallery

The Plattsburgh Hornets would be crowned the 2023 Section VII Class A Boy's Soccer champions. It would be the Section Class A Boy's Soccer Championships from Northeastern Clinton as the #1 seeded Plattsburgh Hornets would meet up with the #2 Peru Nighthawks for the right to head to the state tournament. The Peru goalkeeper Connor Perrotte comes in with the diving attempt on the ball and covers it up to stop Hornet's goal attempt. It would be a mid-week affair in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Soccer action as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host their neighbors and rival Peru Nighthawks in the second meeting of the season. As the Nighthawks would win the first meeting of the season earlier in the season at home by a 3-2 score the Hornets would be looking for revenge. The Hornets would get the opening goal of the game from #10 just 15 minutes into the game with the help of number #3 to give the Hornets the 1-0 lead. Then with just over five minutes left in the first half, the Hornets would extend their lead to 2-0 on a goal by #17 that he would get off the rebound from his own penalty kick. That is where the game would stay as defense would be the name of the game in the second half. With the win, the Hornets go to 5-5-2 as they head into their next game against Beekmantown on October 10th. The Nighthawks fall to 8-3-1 on the season as they head into their home tilt against the Saranac Spartans on October 10th. Gallery

It would be week #3 of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference season and we would have the old crosstown rivalry once against as the #20 Peru Nighthawks would host the Plattsburgh Hornets at the Apple Bowl. It would take till there were just under three minutes left in the first quarter to get the first score of the game when Sawyer Schlitt would score on the 1-yard lead for the 6-0 lead. Then with just under forty seconds left in the quarter, the Nighthawks would double their lead on an 83-yard run from Sawyer Schlitt for his second score of the game and take the 13-0 lead, and that was where the game would stay to end the half as there was no scoring in the second quarter. When the teams would return for the third quarter the Nighthawks would start to pull away as Sawyer Schlitt would score for the third time in the game this time from 14 yards out and take the 20-0 just under five minutes into the third quarter. Then at the 7:33 mark of the third quarter, Sawyer Schlitt would get his fourth score of the game this time from 16 yards out, and extend their lead to 27-0. With just under four minutes left in the quarter, the Hornets would break up the shutout bid as Riguelson Filosca would get the touchdown on a 15-yard pass and cut the deficit to 27-8. However, with just over a minute left in the quarter the Nighthawks would score again this time on a 29-yard run from Zack Engstrom and make it a 34-8. Then just 3:29 into the fourth quarter Nighthawks Sawyer Schlitt would add his fifth touchdown of the game on a five-yard run and secure the 40-8 victory. In the winning effort, the Nighthawks will go to 3-0 on the season as they will head to the Saranac Spartans on September 23rd while the Hornets fall to 0-3 and will host Beekmantown Eagles on September 22nd.
