NYSPHSAA Boy's Hockey: #10 Saranac Spartans @ Livingston Lakers January 17th 2025

Saranac's Adrian Barnes (8) with his second goal of the night on the scramble in front of the net. It would be NYSPHSA Boy's Hockey from the IRA Wilson Arena on the campus of SUNY Geneseo. It would see the #10 Saranac Spartans travel and take on the Livingston Lakers to start their road weekend to Section V. The game would start well for the home Lakers as they would get the game's opening goal at the 7:53 mark of the period. The Spartans would come back and tie the game up at the 11:17 mark of the period when Adrian Barnes would score. At the 14:30 mark of the period, the traveling Spartans would take the 2-1 lead on the Noah Miner goal. Then, to finish the period with 23 seconds left, the Spartans would strike again for their goal in five minutes, and the second one for Adrian Barnes as the period would end at 3-1. When the teams returned for the second period, the Spartans would waste little time making it a 4-1 lead as Adrian Banes would complete the hat trick. Then the Lakers would come back and score two goals in 12 seconds to make it a 4-3 game. Then, with under 5 minutes left in the period, they would complete the comeback and tie the game at four The,n just 1:45 into the third period; the Lakers would take the lead back to 5-4 and be able to extend the lead to 6-4 with just over 12 minutes left in the game. The Spartans would keep fighting and make it a 1 goal game again at the 9:08 mark on the Ryan Campbell short-handed goal. Then, with 1:49 left in the game, the Spartans would tie the game at six on the Gab Moore rebound goal, and that's where regulation would end. In the overtime, the Spartans would get the game-winner on the Ashtyn Catlin powerplay goal as the Spartans got the 7-6 win. In the winning effort, the Spartans go to 5-2-1 on the season as Sean Mclane makes 17 saves, and they will be right back in action as they take on Churchville Chilli to finish off the weekend tri-ass for the Laker; they fall to 2-8-1 on the season and will be playing Brighton tomorrow finish off there weekend set. Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Girl's Basketball: #14 Saranac Spartans @ Plattsburgh Hornets January 10th 2025

Saranac's Madison Gagnier (10) and Plattsburgh's Essence Gorham (12) raise for the opening tip, and the game is underway. It would be Champlain Valley Athletic Conference girls's Basketball action from Plattsburgh High as the Hornets would host #14 Saranac Spartans. It would take some time to get the first score of the game. We would be halfway through the first quarter before our first basket, but when the scoring came, the Spartans would string a few together and have the 11-3 lead after the first quarter. When the second quarter came around, the Hornets would find their shot, but they would not be able to chip into the deficit. The Hornets would win the quarter 12-11, but the Spartans would have the 22-15 lead at the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter, the Spartans would stay hot with an 11-8 quarter and take a 33-20 lead into the fourth quarter. With the Spartans having the game pretty much in hand, it would be a slower pace in the fourth quarter played, and the teams would tie for the quarter at eight as the Spartans would get the 41-28 victory. With the win for the Spartans, they go to 9-2 in the season as they return home next week. As for the Plattsburgh Hornets would fall to 3-6 on the season as they head into their game against the Beekmantown Eagles on Tuesday. Gallery

We would have Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Hockey, and it would be a rematch of last year's thrilling Semi-final game as the #13 Saranac Spartans would host the Saranac Lake Placid Lakers from the AC North Sports Center in an early season conference match-up. The game would start well for the home Spartans as Gabe Moore would get the game's opening goal at the 3:30 mark of the period for the 1-0 lead. Later in the period, the Lakers would get the equalizer from Ayden McCormick to tie the game after the first period. In the early stages of the second period, the Spartans would regain the lead on the Landon Giroux at 2-1. The game would stay there till the 7:35 mark of the period when Ryan Campbell would light the lamp on the rebound goal. Then, with just under five minutes left in the period, Campbell would strike again for his second of the night and make it a 4-1 game. The Lakers would answer back on the powerplay with 1:35 left in the second period on Ayden McCormick's second goal of the night, and the period would end at 4-2 Spartans. It would take the 11:52 mark of the third period for the next goal when Ashytn Catlin would score for the Spartans and make it a 5-2 game, but just 15 seconds later, the Spartans would extend it to 6-2 on Nolan Miner's goal. Then, just two minutes later, the Spartans would end their scoring spree as Chase Carpenter would get on the board and make it a 7-2 game. The Lakers would get one in the closing minute from Ayden McCormick for his second goal to finish the game at 7-3 Spartans. In the winning effort, the Spartans will go to 6-2-1 on the season, and Ryan Campbell will lead the way with two goals as they head into their weekend series on January 17th and 18th.
