It would be the opening round of the NCAA Division III Women's Hockey Tournament, and it would see an old rivalry renewed at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Elmira Soaring Eagles with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line. The Soaring Eagles would get the game's opening goal at the 13:57 mark of the first period when Erika Goleniak would light the lamp, and that's where the lead would stand at the end of first period. When the teams returned for the second period both teams would have there chances to get a goal as the Cardinals would lead the period 14-6 shots on goal but would not be able to get one in the net so the Soaring Eagles would hold onto the 1-0 lead as they went to the third period. Once again, in that period, the Cardinals would lead the way with 11 shots to 5, but they couldn't score, and the Eagles would get a 1-0 win. In the winning effort for the Soaring Eagles, Sara Sevcikova would make 40 saves in the shutout victory as they go to 21-7-1 on the season and advance to the quarterfinals against Wisconsin River Falls. It would be a matchup in the New England Hockey Conference from Weibel Arena as part of the Skidmore Thoroughbreds alum weekend, as they would host the Albertus Magnus Falcons in front of just over 300 fans. The game would remain scoreless till the 12:43 mark of the first period when the Thoroughbreds would score twice in 47 seconds on goals from Stephen Perez and Coleman Jenkins for the 2-0 lead. The Thoroughbreds would add their third goal of the period when Ethan Heidepriem scored at the 17:59 mark to make it a 3-0 game, and that's where the first period would end. In the second period, the Thoroughbreds would extend their lead to 4-0 at the 14:27 mark when Evan Brown would light the lamp. The Falcons wouldn't be outdone, though, as they would get on the board 26 seconds later to make it a 4-1 game on the Paden Hicks powerplay goal, and that's how the scoring would end for the second period. In the third period, defense would be the game's name as neither team could find the net, and the Thoroughbreds would hold on for the 4-1 win. In the winning effort for the Thoroughbreds, they would go to 11-10 on the season, and Joshua Seeley would make 34 saves on the afternoon as they head to the road and take on Salve Regina.
