Plattsburgh's Louis Sweenor (5) and Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers Lincoln Norfolk (9) battle for control of the face-off at midfield after a goal. Section X Boy's Lacrosse action this afternoon from the Stafford Middle School Field would be as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host their fellow normal section vii opponent the Saranac Lake Placid Lakers. The game would start low scoring with the defenses being superior as the Hornets would have the slim 2-1 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Hornets would break out with a five-goal outburst and take control of the game at 7-2 at the half. When the teams returned for the third quarter the Lakers would make some changes and their defense would be on display as the Hornets would get the lone goal of the game for the 8-2 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Lakers would do all they could to get back in the game with a 4-goal quarter. However, it would not be enough as the Hornets would hold on for the 9-6 victory. In the winning effort, the Hornets would go to 3-1 on the season as they head into their next game on Friday as they travel to St Lawerence to take on the Larries. As for the Lakers, they will look to right the ship as they fall to 2-2 on the season. Gallery

Beekmantown's Edward Sweenor (10) flips it over the shoulder of the Saranac Lake/Lake Placid goalie Cassidy Goodman (31) four one of his four goals on the night. It would be the Section VII Division II Boy's Hockey Championship and it would feature the upset-minded #3 Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers taking on the #1 and top ten state-ranked Beekmantown Eagles from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena in front of nearly a 1000 fans. The Eagles would get on the board early with the Zach Lapier goal at the 3:04 mark of the first period. Lapier and the Beekmantown Eagles would strike again with 2 more goals 41 seconds apart at the 5:38 and 6:19 mark of the first period to give the Beekmantown Eagles the 3-0 lead on the Zach Lapier. With just over 4 minutes left in the opening period, the Eagles would strike again and take the 4-0 lead this time coming from Edward Sweenor. The game would stay that wall to the third period as there was no scoring in the second period and the teams would just go back and forth with each having their chance but were just unable to light the lamp. However, the Eagles would make up for the no scoring in the second period as they would score twice in the first 32 seconds of the third period as Edward Sweenor would score twice to complete his hat trick and give the Eagles the 6-0 lead. Not being outdone by his teammate Zach Lapier would strike again for his fourth on the night just 39 seconds later and the Eagles now led 7-0. Then with just over ten minutes left in the game, Edward Sweenor would strike to even back up with Zach Lapier who have four goals each to make it an 8-0 lead for the Eagles. Then 6:38 left in the game the other Lapier kid on the team Carter LaPier would score and take the 9-0 lead and win as the Beekmantown Eagles were crowned the 2024 Section VII Champions and will play the Queensbury Spartans in the Quarterfinals of the NYSPHSAA Division 2 Tournament on March 2nd in Queensbury, New York with the winner headed to Buffalo, New York, and the State Frozen Four. The Beekmantown Eagles have been crowned the 2024 Section VII Boy's Hockey Champions for the third straight year and will enter the NYSPHSAA Division 2 Boy's Hockey Tournament. It would be the Section VII Division II Boy's Hockey Championship and it would feature the upset-minded #3 Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers taking on the #1 and top ten state-ranked Beekmantown Eagles from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena in front of nearly a 1000 fans. It would be the second semi-final of the night in the Section VII Boy's Hockey Tournament as the #3 Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers would travel to Plattsburgh and the Amer-Can North Sports Center and take on the #2 seeded Saranac Spartans with the winner getting the #1 Beekmantown Eagles for a sectional title. The favorite Saranac Spartans would get the opening goal of the game at the 9:24 mark of the first period on the Landon Duprey goal to make it 1-0. The Spartans wouldn't waste time making it 2-0 15 seconds later on the Ryan Campbell goal. Then with just 22 seconds left in the period, the Spartans would jump out to a 3-0 lead on the Evan Patrie goal. The Lakers would come out firing and make it a 3-1 game 41 seconds into the second period on the Evan Willette goal. The Lakers would stay hot and make it a one-goal game at the 5:20 mark of the period on the powerplay goal of Adrian McCormick. Then within a 2:27 stretch in the second period, the Lakers would explode for three goals to take a 5-3 lead with goals from Evan Willette, Will Landerault, and Adrian McCormick. The Spartans would answer back with 36 seconds left in the second period on the Ashtyn Caitlin goal to make it a one-goal game at 5-4 at the end of the second period. The game would stay there till the 10:45 mark of the third period when the Lakers's Kyle Duffy would score to make it a 6-4 Lakers lead from there the defense would clinch down and they would add an empty netter from Evan Willette for the hat trick and the 7-4 victory. It would be the second meeting of the year between the Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers and the SaranacSpartans this time from the Amer-Can North Sports Center in Section VII Boy's Hockey. The Spartans would get the game started fast as Adrian Barnes would get the opening goal of the game just 1:51 into the game and the Spartans would be off and running as they would add three more goals in the period from Ashtyn Catlin, Evan Patrie, and Landen Duprey and take the 4-0 lead after the first period. In the second period the good times would start rolling for the Spartans would add a five spot in the period on goals from Landen Duprey three in the period and four in the game and Noah Miner and Jonathan Coryer would get the other two. While Ayden McCormick would get the Lakers on the board in the period the Spartans would be in control with the 9-1 lead after the second period. In the third period, the Spartans would empty the bench and get the other players in the game. The Spartans would still get 4 goals in period two coming from Tom Sorensen (his first two of his high school career) with the other two coming from Ryan Campbell and Landen Duprey his fifth of the game as the Spartans would get the 13-1. In the winning effort, Shawn McLane would make 15 saves on the night as the Spartans would go to 11-7-1 on the season. The Lakers goalies would combine for nearly 50 saves on the night as they fell to 5-12-1. The Lakers will be back in action Wednesday with their home finale against the Plattsburgh Hornets. The Beekmantown Eagles are crowned the 2024 NYSPHSAA Girl's Hockey champions with a 9-0 win over the Saranac Lake-Lake Placid Lakers at the Ronald B Stafford Ice. It would be the NYSPHSAA Section VII Championship in Girl's Hockey and it would feature the #1 Beekmantown Eagles at 18-1 against the #2 Saranac Lake-Lake Placid Lakers at 3-16 from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena in front of a decent crowd. The Eagles would come soaring in the first period and would get three unanswered goals from Avery Parker, Sophia Amaya-Gutierrez, and Janna Ruest and take the 3-0 lead after the first period. When the teams returned for the second period the Eagles would keep their foot on the gas and would have a five-goal outburst in the second with goals from Meegan Burdo, Katie McCormick, Sophia Amaya-Guiterrez (the second of the night), Lilly Pratt, and Ele Fullman and they would take control with the 8-0 lead. In the third period with the game in hand, the teams would empty the benches and let the rest of the teams play and the Eagles would add one more in the period Ele Fullman would get her second of the night as the Beekmantown Eagles get the 9-0 win. In the winning effort, they will advance to the NYSPHSAA Regional Tournament and will play the Adirondack United on February 8th in the opening round as they look to get revenge on their only loss of the season.
