Peru's Reese Duprey (5) breaks in on the basket and rises for the score as part of a game-high 17-point night. It would be the last game of the opening day of the third annual Clinton Community College Holiday Classic and it would feature the Boquet Valley Griffins and the Peru Nigthawks in another classic Champlain Valley/Mountain Valley classic. The Nighthawks would get off to a soaring start in the game and have an 18-5 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the teams would play a more evenly matched eight minutes with the Nighthawks having a slim 11-8 quarter and taking a 29-13 lead into the halftime break. When the teams returned for the second half the Nighthawks would have shutdown defense and win the quarter 15-1 and take a 44-14 lead into the fourth. In the fourth quarter, the teams would play a little more evenly but the Nighthawks would still get the 15-11 quarter and secure the 59-25 victory. In the winning effort, the Nighthawks would even up their record on the season at 4-4 and will play Malone Huskies in the second game of the classic while Boquet Valley falls to 4-4 and will meet up with the Saranac Spartans. Boquet Valley's Jackson Hooper (3) takes it through the lane and the traffic and lays it off the window for the score as part of a seventeen point game. It would be the opening game of the Clinton Community College Holiday Classic and we would feature the Peru Nighthawks and the Boquet Valley Griffins in Boy's Basketball action. The game would start tight as the Griffins would have a slim 16-12 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter though the Griffins would start to pull away with a 13-8 quarter and take a 29-20 lead at the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter the Nighthawks would do their best to stay with the Griffins as the Griffins would win the quarter by a slim 13-10 and take a 42-30 lead into the fourth quarter. In that fourth quarter, the Griffins would double up the Nighthawks with a 14-7 quarter and secure the 56-37 victory. In the winning effort, Jackson Hooper would lead the way for the Griffins with 17 points as they go to 7-0 and stay undefeated on the season as they will take on the Saranac Spartans on Day 2 of the tournament. Peru's wrestler goes up and under on the Northern Adirondack Bobcats wrestler for the toss to the matt. It would be the second week of Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Wrestling as the Peru Nighthawks would host the Northern Adirondack Bobcats it would be close in the early going but the Northern Adirondack Bobcats would pull away for the 49-24 victory. In the winning effort, the Northern Adirondack Bobcats would go to 2-0 in the section while the Peru Nighthawks fall to 1-1 as the teams hit the quarter pole of the sectional season. The Peru Nighthawks are crowned the 2023 Section VII Class B champions. It would be the second game of the championship Saturday from Ausable Valley as this time it would be the Section VII Class B championship as it would be the classic rivalry with the #1 Peru Nighthawks and the #2 Beekmantown Eagles for the right to head to the NYSPHSAA Class B Tournament. It would start out like a lot of these classic games with hard-hitting and tight defense. The Nighthawks would finally break through for the first score of the game on a 23-yard pass and catch to Trenten Taylor to give the Nighthawks the 7-0 lead with 2 minutes left in the half and that is how the first half would end. The game would stay there till the 5:38 mark of the third quarter when Zack Engstrom would score from 5 yards out to make it a 14-0 game. Then with just over six minutes left in the game, the Nighthawks would take control of the game on Zack Engstrom's second score of the game this time from 40 yards out, and secure the 20-0 lead and win. With the win the Nighthawks go to 8-1 on the season and will take on the Gouvenor Wildcats in the opening round of the NYSPHSAA Class C Tournament. The Plattsburgh Hornets would be crowned the 2023 Section VII Class A Boy's Soccer champions. It would be the Section Class A Boy's Soccer Championships from Northeastern Clinton as the #1 seeded Plattsburgh Hornets would meet up with the #2 Peru Nighthawks for the right to head to the state tournament. The Nighthawks would get the opening goal of the game just seven minutes into the game from Seanen Edwards for the 1-0 lead. The game would stay there all the way to the 61st minute of the game when the Hornets would fight back and tie the game at one on the Andrew Bula goal. That is where the game would through the rest of regulation along with the 30 extra minutes of the overtime session and there would be no winner. From there the game would head to penalty kicks and it would take to the eighth round before we had a winner. When the Hornets get the win they advance to the NYSPHSAA Class A Tournament and in the first round will face the Massena Red Raiders from Section X. In the winning effort, Nick Clooney would make 7 saves on the night and Connor Perrotte would have 6 on the night. Gallery

The Beekmantown Eagles celebrate their overtime game-winner that came in the 85th minute from Ian McCasland and send the home crowd home happy. it would be a late-season contest inside the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference from the Beekmantown Central School as the Eagles would host the Peru Nighthawks in Boys Soccer action. It would be a very evenly matched contest between a couple of good teams that would see the Eagles have the shot-on-net advantage by a count of 8-4. This game would need more than regulation time to decide the winner as the score would be deadlocked with no score as they would play the needed 80 minutes. In the extra time, the Eagles would finally get the needed goal from Ian McCasland for the 1-0 win. With the win the Beekmantown Eagles would finish off their regular season with a 8-5-1 record while the Nighthawks finish the season at 9-4-1 and now both teams will look forward to the upcoming playoffs.
