Indepence Weekend Spectular @ Mohawk International Raceway June 30th 2023

Zack Daniels 930) drops to the bottom of the track and passes Joel Herne (AK47) to get the feature win on the night. It would be the first race in three weekends at the Mohawk International Raceway and it would be one of the bigs on the Independence Weekend Spectular and part of the Mohawk Series and there would be 97 cars in the pits. After all the heat racing was done it would be on to the features and first up would be the Turtles Nest Mini Stocks and Francis White would come from the third starting spot and get the lead on lap 1 and lead them all for the win. Then we would have the King Canna Limited Sportsman Modified and Kyle Reif would get the lead of the first and lead for the first ten laps when he would get passed by Devon Guyette and Bob Laware as Guyette would get the win as Reif and Laware would round out the podium. Then we would have one of the main races on the night on tap with the Twin Leaf 35 for the Sportsman Modified. Nick Heywood would get the early lead of the race over Jalbert at the start. There would be a bad wreck off the restart on lap eight when Tyler Stevenson would meet the backstretch wall and flip and get hit by the pack on the way through. From there it would be the Nick Heywood and Thomas Cook show and on a restart with six laps to go would see Heywood take the lead over Cook but there be no give and Thomas Cook would get the win as they came across the line side by side at the checker. Then it would be the Good Leaf 40 for the 358 Modifieds and it would see the race go 37 laps caution free with Ryan Arbuthnot leading all 40 laps for the win although it would be not without a great challenge from Chris Rabbe and Tim Fuller to round out the podium. Then the last race of the night would be the Famous Aye's 20 for the Pro Stock and Roch Aubin would get the lead off the start. Although it would be short-lived as Joel Herne would take over the lead on lap three. Although there would be a challenge from a newcomer to the division this season Zack Daniels would take the lead on lap 6 and from there would set sail for the win. The track will come back to life next weekend with the 358 Modified "Run what you Brung", Sportsman Modified, Pro Stock, Limited Sportsman Modified, Mini Stocks, and the Enduros. Gallery

Airborne Speedway Round #5 Highlight

Joey Scarbrough (11vt) with the late race pass on Jason Bruno (66b) for the win in the J+S Steel Sportsman Modified. It would be the fifth week at Airborne Speedway and it would be one of the more special nights for all the drivers especially the kids as it would be kid's ride night at the track presented by Sysco and Loremans with around 75 cars in competition. The night would start with the kid's favorite portion of the night as they would get to go for a ride with their favorite drivers. After all that and all the heat racing had concluded it would be onto the features and the first one up would be the J+S Steel Sportsman Modified for 25 laps. In their race, it would see one caution on the only lap as the front row Craig Worely and Mark Fewater would get tangled up battling for the lead in turn one. From there it would be a battle up front for the first part of the race between Jason Bruno and Craig Worely with Bruno getting the advantage. Although they would not be able to go out and hide as there would be a hard-charging Joey Scarbrough that would take the lead in the closing laps and capture his second win of the season followed by the Bruno brothers Jason and Travis rounding out the top 3. Then next up would be the Taylor Rental Street starting 27 cars and that race would not be without its own fair share action as there would be multiple rollovers in the fifteen laps and other cautions that would see your early season points contenders all getting caught up in it the Malay. Although when the dust would settle it would be one of the class veterans that would get the win on the night with Josh Laporte pulling it into victory lane with Luke Marcheski and John Michael Bressette rounding out the top three. Then we would be on to the Northern Blacktopping Limited Sportsman Modified and it would see Rick Frenyea lead the whole race until the last corner when Dale Gonyo would pounce for the win. Then to finish off the night it would be the Hartson Total Opening Renegades for their 25-lap race. The early part of the race would see Keith Pelkey and Jason Boggett chasing down the checkered. Although there would be a hard runner charging from his eighth-place starting spot and Shawn Duquette would capture his second straight win on a late-race restart and Andrew Fitzgerald and Keith Pelkey would finish off the top three. It will be a quick turnaround at the track as they are back racing this Wednesday, June 14th as the Super Dirtcar Series comes to town along with the Taylor Rental Street Stock and the J+S Steel Sportsman Modified. Shawn Duquette (18) and Richie Turner (17) battle for the lead as they dive down into turn one and Shawn Duquette would get the win on the night. It would be the fourth week of racing from the Airborne Speedway as we enter the month of June and the first of two showings of the Nostalgia Tour cars along with the J+S Steel Sportsman Modified, Northern Blacktopping Limited Sportsman Modified, Hartson Total Opening Renegades, and Taylor Rentals and a surprise appearance by three mega trucks for exhibition. After the heat races were done on the day it would be onto the features for the evening. Before the mains would get underway though the would be an exhibition put on by three of the badest mega trucks in the area doing jumps and donuts for the crowd. Once the mains got underway the Dirt Modified Nostalgia Cars would be first up for their main and the win would go to Aaron Pough. First up for the regular Airborne Speedway divisions would be the Hartson Total Opening Renegades for 25 laps and would see David Sartwell Cornell start on the pole and lead the first couple laps over Keith Pelkey but the Duke Shawn Duquette would be on the charge from the 9th starting spot and take the lead. Although there would be a late-race restart and see him and Riche Turner put on a great battle over the closing laps to claim Shawn Duquettes second win of the season over Richie Turner and Tylor Terry to round out the top three. Then next up would be the J+S Steel Sportsman Modified and would see Mike Wells and Tanner Forbes start on the front row Wells would get the early lead of the race but there would be a hard charger from the back of the pack and take the lead on lap ten and not look back from there to score his first win of the season. Then it would be time for the Taylor Rental Street Stocks for there 15 lap main event and see John Brown and Jason Bradley get the lead at the start of the race but there be hard-charging Jake Fountain from the fourth row a take the lead by lap five of the event but it would be not without challenge as Josh Laporte would make it a race down the stretch but Fountain would hold on for second win of the season. Then to finish off the night it would be the Northern Blacktopping Limited Sportsman Modified and for the second week in a row it would be the Nate Leonard show and he would claim the win for the second straight week. We would have a three way battle up front for the 358 Modified victory between Chris Raabbe (01), Tim Fuller (19) and Lance Willix (19) with Chris Raabe getting the win for his fifth memorial cup win. It would be the third week of racing from the Mohawk International Raceway and it would be the annual memorial cup presented by Frenchie's Chevy with the 358 Modifieds, Sportsman Modified, Pro Stock, Limited Sportsman Modified, and the 4 Cylinders with 95 cars in the pits. After the heat race was done on the night the first main of the evening would be the 4 Cylinders and there would be a battle up front for a few laps between Francis White and Curtis Smith although Francis White would slowly pull away for the win. Then next up would be the Sportsman Modified 35-lap feature and it would see the first 31 laps go caution free. Then on the late race restart it would be a whos up front with Cedric Gauvreau, Shane Pecore, Nick Heywood, and DJ Gonyo having the first two rows on the restart. There would be a brief battle up front between Gonyo and Gaureau with Gauvreau getting the edge Shane Pecore would try and get the lead with two laps to go but Gauvreau would hold on for the win. Then it would be time for the 40 lap memorial cup race for the 358 Modifieds and it would be a three-horse race for the last 20 laps but o what a race it was between Tim Fuller Chris Raabe and Lance Willix as the three of them would be side by side switching from the top to the bottom of the track and flopping the lead back and forth throughout with the eventual win going to Chris Raabe and in doing so resetting the Mohawk International record with his fifth cup win. Then it would be the Pro Stocks for 20 laps and this would have another great battle up front with the top 5 cars all battling it out but Sid Harmer Jr would be just that much better than the rest as he would get the win over Joel Herne and Marc Lalonde. Then to finish off the night would be the Limited Sportsman Modified and it would see the kid Dylan Moore getting his first win in a sportsman over Kevin Foster and Dustin Wood to finish out the top three, Racing will return to the Mohawk Speedway next weekend with all the divisions returning for regur racing plus the slick track enduro. 2023 Airborne Speedway Round #3 Highlight

Felix Roy (91) gets under Mike Mahaney (35) in the closing laps of the 359 Modified feature for the win. It would be the third night of racing from Airborne Speedway for 2023 with 358 Modifieds, Sportsman Modified, Renegades, Limited Sportsman Modified, and the Street Stock all in action on the night. Once the heat races would be done on the night it would be onto the features for the evening with the Limited Sportsman Modified first and it would see Nate Leonard make quick of the field to get his first career win. Then it would be onto the 358 Modifieds feature and it would see a great battle up front between Mike Mahaney and Felix Roy with the eventual win going to Felix Roy on a pass with a couple of laps left and Chris Raabe would round out the top three. Then it would be onto the SportsmanModified feature and it would be a race that would take some time to get going as there would be four cautions in the first laps of the race but once it did get going Mike Phinney would get around Beau Reeves for the lead and would not give it up the rest of the night for the win and Reeves and Aubin would round out the top three with the Hard Charger Bucko Braham getting fourth after a 19th place start. Then we would be onto the Renegades for their 25-lap event and Nathaniel Guay would get the early lead at the start of the race. Although he would start falling backward and Zack Daniels would get the lead and hang on for the win over a hard-charging Shawn Duquette and last week's winner Bill Thwaits for the top three. Then the last race of the evening would be the Taylor Rentals Street Stocks for fifteen laps and it would see Josh Blake getting the win but that would not be without challenge from Josh Laporte Jr and Ryan Senecal and that would be Blake's first win. The Airborne Speedway will be back in action next weekend June 3rd with the Sportsman Modified, Renegades, Limited Sportsman Modified, and the Street Stock in action plus the Mohawk Valley Antique racers. Airborne Speedway Week 2 Nightlights

Joey Scarbrough (11vt) celebrates his first win of the season in victory lane after a pass on Michael Wright with two laps to go for the win. It would be the second racing weekend of the season from the Airborne Speedway and it would see the four main divisions of the season in racing action with the J+S Steel Sportsman Modified, Hartson Total Opening Renegades, Taylor Rental Street Stocks, and the Northern Blacktopping Limited Sportsman Modified on Law Enforcement Night. There would be a slight delay at the start of the action as the dust and sun setting was making it very difficult for the drivers to see down the backstretch so they would do some more track prep before the start of the racing action. Once the racing would get underway there would be great battles throughout the divisions and minimal numbers of cautions on the evening. All racing was done around 9:30. Once the heat races were over it would be on to and the first feature out of the box would be the Northern Blacktopping Limited Sportsman Modified. It would see Mike Arnold get his second straight win to start the season as he would get the wire-to-wire victory over Rick Frenyea and Parker Derdomey. Then next up would be the Taylor Rental Street Stock for there 15 lap event and it would be another race that would caution free but it would be not without great racing competition as it would see Jake Fountain and Rich Doner battle for the early race lead which Fountain would get and hold on for his first win of the season and then there would be a great battle down the stretch with Doner and Josh Laporte Jr for second which would see Doner hold on for second place with Laporte getting third. Then it would be on to the J+S Steel Sportsman Modified and that would see Michael Wright start on the pole and just take off on the field but there would be a hard-charging Joey Scarbrough that would come from his ninth starting spot and with two laps to go be on the back bumper of Michael Wright and would use the lap car as a pick for the winning pass to get the win Michael Wright would get second and Craig Worley would finish out the podium. Then it would be the last race of the night with the Hartson Total Opening Renegades in there 25 lap main event and would see Billy Thwaits have a great battle with the Terry Brothers in the closing laps for the win on a late-race restart to get his first win of the season to send the crowd home happy and wanted more next. Speaking of next week the track will come back to life with racing action with the four weekly divisions back in action. Gallery
