Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Football Class C Finals: #1 Saranac Chiefs Vs #2 Saranac Lake Red Storm November 4th 2022

It would be a battle of the Saranac's as the top 2 seeds would meet in the championship of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Class with the Satanac Chiefs and Saranac Lake Red Storm as the Red Storm would look to avenge there overtime defeat from earlier in the season. The Chiefs would get the opening score of the game in the final minute of the opening quarter on a six yard pass to Patrick Clancey and they would take the 7-0 lead. In the final minute of the half the Red Storm would score on a 37 yard pick six from Evan Willetts although they would miss the extra point and the Chiefs would hold the 7-6 lead. It wouldn't be long though as the Chiefs would extend there lead to 14-6 on a 41 yard fumble recovery from Bryce Deangleo and that's where the game would stand as they head into the intermission. The Red Storm would keep fighting though and they would answer right back just 1:27 into the third quarter on Markus Navarra 14 yard touchdown pass and make it a 14-12 Chiefs lead. Although just over a minute later the Chiefs would answer back on a 58 yard touchdown run by Landon Duprey and extend the lead to 21-12. That would be where the game would stand till the 2:32 mark of the fourth quarter when Landon Duprey would get his second rushing touchdown of the night this time from six yards out and extend the lead to 29-12. Then in the closing part of the game the Chiefs would seal the game as Dylan Cogswell would recover the fumble and take it to the house for the score and secure the 36-12 victory. With the win the Saranac Chiefs advance to the New York State Class C Football tournament and will take on the Gouverneur Wildcats while the Saranac Lake Red Storm season will come to end at 4-5. The Red Storm would waste no time in getting the first score of the game just 1:54 into the game on a 12 yard run by Connor Hewitt for the 7-0 lead. The with just 29 seconds left in the quarter the Red Storm would strike again this time with a nine yard run by Landon LaDue and take the 14-0 lead. The Patriots would have an answer in the second quarter in a 8 yard pass to Korvin Dixon 3:39 into the quarter to make it a 14-7 game. Although with just 18 seconds left in the first half the Red Storm would strike again with a six yard pass to Connor Hewitt for his second touchdown of the game and take the 14 point lead at 21-7. When the teams came back for the third quarter the Red Storm would take little time and extending there lead to 28-7 just 1:06 in on a 27 yard run by Connor Hewitt for third score on the day. Then 3:47 into the fourth quarter the Red Storm would put the icing on the cake with a five yard run by Connor Hewitt for his 4th touchdown on the day. In the winning effort the Red Storm go to 4-4 on the season and will play the Saranac Chiefs for the section VII Class C title while the Ausable Valley Patriots season comes to end at 3-6. Gallery

The #12 Peru Nighthawks would travel to Saranac Lake and take on the Red Storm in the last week of the regular season as they would look to finish off the perfect regular season. In the first quarter both teams would get on the board although the Nighthawks would have the 7-3 lead as there defense would stand tall. Although with under four minutes left in the second quarter the Red Storm would take the 10-7 lead on a 4 yard run by Connor Hewitt. The Nighthawks although would get the ball back before the half would expire and drive down the field and take the 14-10 lead in the closing minute of the half on a 5 yard run by Jack Hanson. In the third quarter the Nighthawks offense would step up and take control of the game. They would get the scoring started just 1:17 into the quarter on a 28 yard run by Jack Hanson for the 21-10 lead. The just half way through the quarter the Nighthawks would strike again this time on a ten yard run by Landon Duprey and extend the lead to 27-10. Then with under two minutes left in the quarter the Nighthawks would strike again this time on a nine yard pass to Landon Duprey to take the 34-10 lead. In the fourth quarter defense would be the name of the game as there would be no scoring and the Nighthawks would get the 34-10 lead to finish the regular season at 8-0 while the Red Storm finish at 3-4. The playoffs will get under way next weekend with the Peru Nighthawks getting a bye and will play the winner of Beekmantown and Plattsburgh for the CVAC Class B title the following weekend. While the Red Storm will host the 2-5 Ausable Valley Patriots in the CVAC Class C Semifinals with the winner getting #21 Saranac Chiefs in the CVAC Class C Championship. Gallery

The Knights get there third goal of the game to retake the two goal lead in the closing stages of the game to secure the victory. It would be a interleague tilt as the Seton Catholic Knights from the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference would host the Saranac Lake Red Storm from the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference in Girl's Soccer action. The game would start off good for the Knights as they would get two unaswered in the first half and take a 2-0 lead into the break. In the second half the teams would trade a pair of goals. With that the Seton Catholic Knights would hold for the 3-1 victory. In the winning effort the Knights would get there first win of the season at 1-2 while the Red Storm fall to 2-3 on the season. The game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the third when the Nighthawks would open up the scoring four runs. In the top of the fourth, the Red Storm would cut the deficit in half as they would get at 4-2. The Nighthawks would explode for eight runs in the sixth inning and extend the lead to 12-2. The Red Storm would an effort in the seventh to get back in the game but they would only get three runs. As the Nighthawks would hold on for the 12-5 win. Gallery

#5 Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers @ #4 Plattsburgh Hornets Champlain Valey Athletic Conference Boys Hockey Play in Game February 22nd 2022

Plattsburgh's Hayden Colburn (20) and Saranac Lake/Lake Placid's captain battle for the puck along theside boards for control. It would be the start of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Hockey playoffs and it would begin with the play in-game as the #4 Plattsburgh Hornets would host the #5 Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers with the winner getting the #1 Beekmantown Eagles in the semi-finals on February 24th. The upset-minded Lakers would get the opening goal of the game just 3:02 into the game from Brady Tremblay for the 1-0 lead. The Hornets would keep up the fight and tie the game at the 6:38 mark of the period on the Bostyn Duquette goal. and that is where the first period would end. In the second period, the Hornets would take the lead at 2-1 at the 3:41 mark of the second period on the Hayden Colburn goal. The game from there would get very physical til the end of the game the Lakers would have many good opportunities to get the equalizer but just couldn't get there. In the closing seconds of the game, the Hornets would add the empty netter from Drew Knowles to secure the 3-1 victory. In the winning effort, Ty Calkins would make 20 saves as the Hornets advance to the Semi-finals of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference and face off with the #1 Beekmantown Eagles Gallery

Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers @ Plattsburgh Hornets Champlain Valey Athletic Conference Boys Hockey February 2nd 2022

Plattsburgh's Dylan Pratcher (11) with the hard hit on the Saranac Lake-Lake Placid defender that he pancakes to the glass as they battle for the puck. It would be the third meeting of the season between the Plattsburgh Hornets and the Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action. The game would start off good for the visiting Lakers as they would get on the board in the first minute of the game. The Hornets would answer back quickly at the 2:10 mark on the goal by Braeden Calkins and tie the game at one, The game would stay there till the 13:20 mark on the Lakers would regain the one-goal lead at 2-1. Although the Hornets would have answered with under two minutes left in the first period when Bostyn Duquette would light the lamp to tie the game at two. The Hornets wouldn't waste long in the second period and take the 3-2 lead at just 1:44 into the second period on the Jace Lacey goal. The Hornets would strike again and quickly just two minutes later when Jackson Kain would score on the power play and make it a 4-2 game. Then to close a fast five minutes the Hornets would strike again this time again from Braeden Calkins for his second of the night to make it a 5-2 game. Then early in the third period, the Hornets would put the icing on the cake with a goal by Drew Knowles to make this a 6-2 game. In the closing stages of the game, the Lakers would get one from Tyler Hinckley to make it a 6-3 game and that's where the game would end. In the winning effort for the Hornets, Ty Calkins would make 19 saves as they go to 3-2-1 on the season. Gallery
