Kenmore East's Tro Normandin (26) with the crunching hit behind the net on Saranac's Jonathan Roy (7). The Saranac Chiefs would get their 2022-23 season underway with a nonleague against the Kenmore East Bulldogs from western New York. The Bulldogs would get the scoring started at the 5:34 mark of the first period on the goal by Parker Cerkiewicz and take the 1-0 lead. Although the Chiefs would answer back in the final five minutes of the period with a goal by Zach O'Connell to tie the game at one. Although the Bulldogs would answer back in the final 90 seconds of the period and retake the one-goal lead at 2-1 on the goal by Dylan McDonald. Although the Chiefs would fight and tie the game at two in the closing seconds of the period on a goal by Adrian Barnes. The Bulldogs would come out swinging in the second period and take the 3-2 lead on the Austin Turnbull goal. Although with under five minutes left in the second period the Chiefs would score twice in 15 seconds from Landon Duprey and Brody Macomber and take the 4-3 lead into the third period. Just 3:50 into the third period would fight and tie the game at four on the goal by Troy Normandin. The Chiefs would not give up though and would regain the 5-4 lead with 3:30 left in the game on Zach O'Conell's second goal of the game. Although in the final minute of the game the Chief's defense would collapse and they would give two goals and the Bulldogs would get the 6-5 victory. Next up for the Chiefs would be the Grand Island Vikings as they look to right the ship. While the Kenmore East Bulldogs will go for the sweep on the weekend as they will face off with the Beekmantown Eagles. Gallery

It would be a battle of the Saranac's as the top 2 seeds would meet in the championship of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Class with the Satanac Chiefs and Saranac Lake Red Storm as the Red Storm would look to avenge there overtime defeat from earlier in the season. The Chiefs would get the opening score of the game in the final minute of the opening quarter on a six yard pass to Patrick Clancey and they would take the 7-0 lead. In the final minute of the half the Red Storm would score on a 37 yard pick six from Evan Willetts although they would miss the extra point and the Chiefs would hold the 7-6 lead. It wouldn't be long though as the Chiefs would extend there lead to 14-6 on a 41 yard fumble recovery from Bryce Deangleo and that's where the game would stand as they head into the intermission. The Red Storm would keep fighting though and they would answer right back just 1:27 into the third quarter on Markus Navarra 14 yard touchdown pass and make it a 14-12 Chiefs lead. Although just over a minute later the Chiefs would answer back on a 58 yard touchdown run by Landon Duprey and extend the lead to 21-12. That would be where the game would stand till the 2:32 mark of the fourth quarter when Landon Duprey would get his second rushing touchdown of the night this time from six yards out and extend the lead to 29-12. Then in the closing part of the game the Chiefs would seal the game as Dylan Cogswell would recover the fumble and take it to the house for the score and secure the 36-12 victory. With the win the Saranac Chiefs advance to the New York State Class C Football tournament and will take on the Gouverneur Wildcats while the Saranac Lake Red Storm season will come to end at 4-5. It would be the fourth week of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference in what would be the game of the week as the Saranac Chiefs hosting the Beekmantown Eagles. It would be a game that would defense driven as both teams were not breaking on the field. There would be no scoring through the first quarter. The Chiefs would get on the board with 4:30 left in the half on a 34 yard feild goal by Nathan Hamel and take a 3-0 lead. Then lead would be short lived as the Eagles would strike on there next drive with a 41 yard touchdown pass to Peyton Viau for the 7-3 lead and thats where the game would stay till the half. Although the Chiefs would come out of the locker room and answer just 1:47 into the third quarter to take a 10-7 lead on a 4 yard run by Nathan Hamel. Then at the five minute mark of the third quarter the Hamel would strike again this time from 57 yards for a 17-7 lead. Then on the Eagles next drive they would get it back to a one score game on a 5 yard run by Nathan Parliment to make it a 17-14 game. From there the defenses on both side would step up and game would end there with the Chiefs getting the win to go to 4-1 while the Eagles fall to 1-4 on the season. Gallery

It would be a game that the Chiefs will not soon forget as they would totally control the Hornets as they would go on for the 13-0 victory. In the winning effort the Syndey Myers would score five goals and Oliva Davis would add two more and the rest would divided up over 6 players. As the Chiefs will start the season off at 1-0 and the Hornets fall to 2-2 as they head into the second week of play and will look to the right the ship. Gallery

Saranac's Aislyn Liberty (5) deliveries the strike for the strikeout as part of a complete game four strikes outperformance. It would be a Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Softball matchup between the Saranac Chiefs and the Peru Nighthawks in early season action. The game would start off good for the home Nighthawks as they would get five runs in the first two innings and take the 5-0 lead. In the third inning, the Chiefs would start to get back in the game with two runs on Benjamin and Owen base hits for a 5-2 game. The game would stay there till the sixth when the Nighthawks would get two runs again to resecure their five-run lead at 7-2 and that's where the game would finish for the Nighthawks win. Gallery

NYSPHSAA Girl's Basketball Class B Regionals #2 Schalmont Sabres Vs #6 Saranac Chiefs March 12th 2022

Schalmont's Karissa Antonie (11) with the off balance shot as drives across the lane. It would be the #2 Schalmont Sabres taking on the #6 Saranac Chiefs in the NYSPHSAA Class B Girl's Basketball Northern Regional Finals. The game would start off low-scoring but tight as they would be tied at six after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the #2 Sabres would go on a tear and open the game up with an 18-3 quarter and take a 24-9 into the locker room. When the teams came back for the third quarter the #6 Chiefs would try and have an answer for the Sabres as they would win the quarter by a slim 16-13 but still trail in the game at 37-25. In the fourth quarter, the Sabres would leave little hope of a Chiefs comeback with a 17-5 quarter and a Sabres 54-30 win. In the winning effort, the #2 Schalmont Sabres advance to the NYSPHSAA Class B Girl's Basketball final at Hudson Valley Community College as the Saranac Chiefs comes to an end at 19-4. Gallery
