Plattsburgh State's Nick Cergol (13) with the pick on the bunt attempt and fires onto the first base for the out. It would be the first game of a twin bill for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals from the Chip Cummings Field against the New Paltz Hawks in SUNYAC play. The game would remain scoreless until the third inning when Kyle Cremin would hit the RBI single to give the Cardinals the 1-0 lead. When the Hawks would get up next in the top of the 4th inning they would tie the game at one Ortiz's fielder choice. In the bottom of the fifth, the Cardinals would regain the lead on Connor Gonzalski's rbi single and make it a 2-1 game. Once again the Hawks would answer right back in the 6th inning on another fielder's choice this time from Ascanio and tie the game at two. Then in the bottom of the seventh, the Cardinals would retake the one-run lead on a solo home run by Kyle Cremin for the 3-2 lead. In the 8th inning, the Cardinals would extend their lead to 4-2 on the rbi single to center from Nck Cergol. In the ninth inning, the Hawks would try and make and come back and tie the game up but it fall short as they would only get one off a sac fly by Harvey and the Cardinals would hold on the four the 4-3 victory and they would get the sweep on the day with the 10-7 victory in game two. In the first game, Chris Samtic would scatter 9 hits over 7 and third innings giving up 2 runs as the Cardinals go to 9-14 on the season. The Cardinals will be back in action Tuesday in nonleague action as they would take on Liberty League foe St Lawrence Saints. Gallery

Plattsburgh State's Nick Cergol (50) with the fire across the diamond to get the runner at first for the out. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Norwich Cadets in nonleague action at Chip Cummings Field. The game would remain scoreless until the third inning when the home cardinals would explode for four runs led by Messersch's 2 rbi double to give them the 4-0 lead. The Cardinals would come back in the fourth with another two runs led by Reily's RBI double as the Cardinals take a 6-0 lead. The Cardinals would keep the bats going in the fifth inning on the single run by Veit's rbi single to center to take the 7-0 lead. The Cardinal's offense would come to end in the sixth inning with another two runs on a 2 rbi single by Messerch to make it a 9-0 game. The Cadets would break the ice in the seventh with a single run there and another in the ninth inning. Although it would not be enough as the Cardinals would get the 9-2 win and go to 11-12 on the season. Leading the way for the Cardinals on the mound would be Ryan Lawyer as he goes six innings and scattered five hits while giving up one run and striking out six. Meanwhile, at the plate, the Cardinals would have a great outing by Steve Messerschmitt as he would have 2 hits and 4 RBIs on the day. Next for the Cardinals would be home non-league against St. Lawerence Saints on April 20th. Gallery

Peru's Zach O'Connell (5) with the jump throw from the hole at shortstop doing his best Derek Jeter attempt for the out. It would be a section vii baseball matchup between the Champlain Valley and Mountain Valley Conference foes as the Peru Nighthawks would host the Chazy Eagles. The game would start off good for the home Nighthawks as they would get a pair of runs in each of the first two innings for the 4-0 lead. In the fourth inning, the Nighthawks would break the game wide open as they would explode for a 12-run inning and take a 16-0 lead. Then in each of the last two innings, they would get two more runs each while the Eagles would avoid the shutout with a single run in the seventh inning as the Knighthawks would get the 20-1 victory. In the winning effort, Nighthawks Ryan Maggys would lead the way with a pair of hits and a 5 rbi game. In the winning effort, the Nighthawks go to 5-1 on the season. Gallery

Plattsburgh State's Kyle Cremin (20) with the base hit back up the middle to get the rally going. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the #19 Oswego State Lakers in doubleheader SUNYAC Baseball action. The first game would not start off good for the Cardinals as the Lakers would get six runs in the first, two in the second, and three more in the third for an 11-0 lead highlighted by a three-run homer by Featherst. The Lakers would then add a run by McCarthy's rbi single for the 12-0 lead. The Cardinals would finally get on the board in the bottom of fifth as Lent would score on an error. Then the Lakers would add another five runs in the sixth highlighted by a two-run homer by Lauria and take a 17-1 lead. In the seventh inning, the Cardinals would find their offense and explode for five runs lead by a pair of walks by Melfi, and Messerch for a 17-6 game. Then in the ninth inning, the Lakers would add two more runs led by a Gallagher rbi single as the Lakers get the 19-6 win. Then it would be onto game two in that second game it would start off better for the home Cardinals as they would take a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a pair of rbi singles by Kornblau, Kowalowski. The Lakers would get the game back to 2-1 on a Drew rbi single. Then the Lakers take the lead in the fourth on a three-run inning led by Lauria's rbi single for a 4-2 game. Then in the seventh inning, the Lakers would secure the win with a four-run inning led by Lauria 2 rbi double for the 8-2. So on that day, the Cardinals would lose both games and fall to 10-8 on the season. Gallery

Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Baseball: Northeastern Clinton Cougars @ Plattsburgh Hornets April 6th 2022

Plattsburgh's Bostyn Duquette (4) slides under the tag at second base with the stolen base. The Plattsburgh Hornets would host the Northeastern Clinton Cougars at the first game at the new baseball field as part of the Plattsburgh High School Athletic Complex. The game would start off good for the home Hornets as they would get two runs thanks to Duquette and Trombley. Then in the second inning, the Hornets would add another run because of an error as the Hornets extend their lead to 3-0. Then in the fourth inning, the Hornets would add another run thanks to a rbi single and take the 4-0 lead. In the fourth inning, the Cougars would get on the board on the sacrifice fly by Ebersol for a 4-1 game. Although in the bottom of the fourth the Hornets retake their four-run on the sac fly by Bostyn Duquette for the 5-1 game. Then in the fifth inning, the Hornets would add two more runs thanks to the king's hit for the 7-1 lead. Then in the sixth inning, the Hornets would blow the game wide open as they would explode for a nine-run inning highlighted by a pair of extra-base hits by Trombley and King as they would make it a 16-1 game and that's where the game would finish up. With the win, the Hornets get their season started off right at 1-0 while the Cougars are still looking for a win as they are 0-2. Gallery

Plattsburgh State's Kolby Mordecki (17) delivers the strike as part of a 4 hit 4 strike-out performance. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would be back in action Monday, April 4th for their 4th game in four days as they would take on the SUNY Poly Wildcats in non-conference action. The game would start off good for the home Cardinals as Melfi would have the rbi double for the 1-0 lead after one. The Cardinals would stay hot in the second with three more runs highlighted by an error that would score two cardinals for the 4-0 lead. The Wildcats would get on the board in third thanks to a Cardinals error. The Cardinals would get a solo run in the third on Wein rbi single for the 5-1 lead. In the fourth inning, the Cardinals would break the game wide open with a six-run inning highlighted again by Wein this time with a 2 rbi hit, and have an 11-1 lead. In the sixth inning, the teams would trade a pair of runs both coming by the way of the wild pitch for a 12-2 game. The Wildcats would get another run in the seventh on the rbi double by Montrose for the 12-3 game. In the eighth inning, the Cardinals would get two more runs to end the scoring for the night on a pair of rbi singles by Roman and Cergol for the 14-3 victory. In the winning effort, Mordecki would get credit for the win going five innings giving up 1 run on four hits while striking out four as the Cardinals go to 9-6 on the season. Gallery

Plattsburgh State's Sean Malamud (35) with the stretch at first to beat the runner for the out, The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would open up their home portion of their schedule with a non-conference doubleheader against the Canton Kangaroos at Chip Cummings Field. The first game would start off slow as there would be no scoring til the 4th inning when the Kangaroos would get on the board with a home run by Miner for the 1-0 lead. Although the Cardinals would answer back in the bottom, of the inning with a 6 run explosion highlighted by a two rbi triple by Lent for the 6-1 game. Although Canton would work their way back into the game with a three-run fifth inning. But in the bottom of the inning, the Cardinals would take control of the game with a nine-run inning highlighted by a three rbi double by Messersch and a 15-4 lead. Then in the sixth inning, the Cardinals would get three more runs thanks to some Canton errors but an 18-4 lead. In the seventh, the Cardinals would get another four runs to expand the lead to 22-4 highlighted by a pair of rbi singles by Cremin and Digiovanni. The scoring would stop in the eighth innings as the teams would each get 1 run as the Cardinals secure the 23-5 win and go to 7-6 on the season. After a 20 minute break, it would be time for game two of the doubleheader and in the third inning, the Cardinals would get the 1-0 lead on the Geraci hit by a pitch that brought the run-in. In the fourth inning, the Cardinals would expand their lead to 2-0 on the Lent sacrifice fly. In the top of the fifth, the Kangaroos would get on the board with a two rbi single by Kapfer and tie the game. The game would stay there till the sixth when the Cardinals take the lead back at 3-2 on an error. Although the Kangaroos would tie the game again in the top of the seventh on a rbi single by Kapfer. In the bottom of the seventh, the Cardinals would win the game on the walk-off walk for the 4-3 win and secure the sweep, and go to 8-6 on the season. Gallery
