Johnny Scarbrough (61) and Andrew Buff battle for the lead during the late stages of the Dirtcar Sportsman Modified North/East Series 40. It would be the start of the 67th season of racing at the Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway as it would be the Liquor and Wine Warehouse Dirtcar Sportsman Modified North/East and would be the first race back at the track where fans were welcome since the close of the 2019 season. In the headline event, there would be 42 cars that would show up for the battle for a thousand dollars to but before they could even get there they would have to qualify as they would be taking 30 to the big dance. There would be some tight racing throughout all the divisions in the heat race action. With the heat racing and last chance qualifiers in the books, the first main of the night would be the 4 Cylinders and it would be a battle of endurance as they would start with 12 cars but by the time they finished there would only be six left. In that fifteen-lap event, the top three would come under the checkered in a blanket with Matt Parker getting the win over Nathan Smart and Clemmy Bell. After a delay for some much-needed track work, the Dirtcar Sportsman Modified North/East Series would take to the stage for their 30 lappers as the race would be reduced by ten laps because there was the weather in the area. Andrew Buff and Johnny Scarbrough would battle for the early lead although Buff would have to call a night early after getting involved with a lapper. With that Johnny Scarbrough would take the lead and win and cash in a cool thousand dollars. Although it would not be easy as he would have to deal with a hard-charging Justin Serevence and David Boisclair. Then we would have a 25 lap main for the Hatson Total Opening Renegades Zack Daniels would start on the pole and hold onto that for the win but it would not come without work as Jim McKerrian would get to the bumper but couldn't get around him and rounding out the top 3 would be Tylor Terry. Then to finish off the night would be the Limited Sportsman Modified for 15 laps and they would start with 6 cars but with the track conditions gone the way of the buffaloes there would only be three that would finish with the win going to Blayden Arquiett over Garrett Givens and Al Lajoie. They will be back racing at Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway next Saturday night (May 8th) check out the Airborne Speedway website though for the schedule on the night and also watch for the release of the full season schedule.
