after loose puck

Plattsburgh State's Phillip Middleton (4) chases down the loose puck. Coming off their first win of the season, the Plattsburgh State Cardinals returned home to the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena Friday and skated to a 1-1 tie with the Blue Devils of SUNY Fredonia. The Cardinals appeared to get on the board midway through the first period, when junior Liam Lawson chased down the puck behind the Fredonia net and fed it out in front to sophomore defenseman Matt Araujo, who buried it with a one-timer. The goal was waved off, however, when officials ruled that Fredonia goaltender Anton Rosen had been interfered with on the play. The Blue Devils officially opened the scoring a few minutes later with a Victor Tracy goal past Plattsburgh goaltender Jimmy Poreda. The Cardinals responded to the goal quickly, and Araujo got his goal back three minutes later, skating around Fredonia defenseman Max Blitz to get a shot from the face-off circle. Those first-period tallies proved to be the only scores of the game, as Rosen made 45 saves on the night to keep the Cardinals from gaining the lead. Poreda made 24 saves in net for the home team.A scrum 11 seconds into the overtime period after Plattsburgh's Mitchell Hale hit Rosen behind the net resulted in 4-on-4 hockey for two minutes, and bench minor for too many players gave Plattsburgh a full power-play in the latter stages of the extra frame, but the Blue Devils restricted the Cardinals to just one shot in overtime, as Plattsburgh's powerplay went 0-for-6 in the tie game.
