The Saranac Spartans would stay in the region for a game the next evening this time against Division I Saratoga Springs Blue Streaks at the Saratoga Springs Ice Rink. The Spartans would get the opening goal of the game from Landon Duprey at the 6:27 mark of the opening period to give them the 1-0 lead. The Blue Streaks would keep coming and they would tie the game up at one on the Andrew Nelsen goal to make it a 1-1 game. However, the Spartans would answer back with 24 seconds left in the period and regain the one-goal lead at 2-1 on the Nolan Miner goal. In the second the Spartans would get the lone goal of the period from Gabe Moore on the rebound at the 1216 mark of the period to make it a 3-1 game. The game would stay there till the 6:26 mark of the third period when the Spartans would strike again and make it a three-goal lead at 4-1 on the Brody McComber goal. However, the Blue Streaks would not go away as they would get two goals within a minute with about five minutes left from Jayson Carpenter and Jack Murauskas to make it a 4-3 game. From there the Spartans defense would be up to the task and would stand tall against the Blue Streaks list minute attempts to tie the game to hold on for the 4-3 win. In the losing effort for the Blue Streaks Matt Barber would make 25 saves as the Blue Streaks fall to 10-7-1 and will be back in action against state-ranked Shenendehowa on Wednesday. While the Saranac Spartans would get the win and go to 9-7-1 on the season and Mason Patnode would make 35 saves on the night and will hit the ice again Tuesday back in sectional play against the Northeastern Clinton Cougars at AC North Sports Center. Southern Maine's Mason Palmer with the body save on Skidmore's Zach Lindewirth (47) to at the time preserve the one-goal lead. It would be a match-up inside the New England Hockey Conference as the #9 Skidmore Thoroughbreds would take on the Southern Maine Huskies in front of 900 passionate fans at the Saratoga Springs Ice Rink. The home Thoroughbreds would get the opening goal of the game at the 4:42 mark of the first period when Patrick Kaeden scored at the 4:42 mark for the 1-0 lead. The Huskies would be able to get the equalizer though on the shorthand when John Hagan would light the lamp at the 8"34 mark of the period to tie the game at one and that's how the first period would end. The Thoroughbreds would be able to retake the lead at 2-1 on the Mason Beecher goal at the 5:48 mark. The lead would be short-lived as the Huskies would answer back about 90 seconds later to tie the game at two on the Jakub Suran goal. Then about three minutes later the Huskies would forge ahead and get the go-ahead goal at the 10:37 mark on the Ethan McDuffie for the 3-2 Huskies lead. The game would stay there till the 11:51 mark of the third period when Matt Sullivan would score on the Huskies powerplay to make it a 4-2 game. From there the Husky's defense would stand tall and hold on for the 4-2 upset victory over the #9 Skidmore Thoroughbreds. In the winning effort, the Huskies Mason Palmer would make 41 saves as they go to 8-12-3 on the season. For the Thoroughbreds Brandon Tate would make 23 saves as they fall to 16-5-3 on the season. Queensbury's shooter with the quick flick that would beat Saranac's Shawn McLane on the glove side for the goal as Queensbury got the 6-5 win. The Saranac Spartans would travel down to Section II Friday night and play the #6 Queensbury Spartans on the pink rink night for cancer awareness in the battle of Spartans. The Saranac Spartans would wear their new black jerseys for cancer awareness while Queensbury would wear pink with a family member's name on the back that was touched by cancer in front of a packed house. The Queensbury Spartans would have a 3-1 lead after the opening 17 minutes while the lone Saranac goal came from Evan Patrie. In the second period, each team would get a pair of goals to make it a 4-2 game after the second 17 minutes. In the third period, both teams would bring the offense as there would be a combined 5 goals in the period but the Queensbury Spartans powerplay would just be too much as they get a couple on the powerplay to secure the 6-5 win. The biggest one would be right after Saranac had made it 5-4 with about six minutes left in the game. However, the Queensbury Spartans would on for the win as Eagn Breault would make 34 saves as they went to 13-3 on the season. In the losing effort, Shawn McLane would make 23 saves in a great effort as Saranac falls to 8-7-1 on the season and will be back in action tomorrow as they play another Section II team in the Saratoga Springs Blue Streaks. Plattsburgh's Bryan Kemokai with the two from the wing as part of a six-point night. It would be a matchup inside the Champlain Valley athletic conference in section VII tonight from the Plattsburgh High School as the Plattsburgh Hornets would meet up with the Patriots from Ausable Valley on the hardwood in boys basketball. The Hornets would jump out to a fast pace on the start and have a 23-6 lead on the Patriots after the 1st quarter. In the second quarter, the Patriots would have a better offensive output but the Hornets would still win the quarter 23-14 and take the 46-20 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter it would be more of the same as the Hornets would have a 26-11 quarter and take the convincing 72-31 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter both teams would unload the benches and the Hornets would get the 10-5 quarter for the 82-36 victory. In the win for the Hornets, Max Filosca would lead the way with 12 points as they went to 8-3 on the season while the Patriots would fall to 2-11 on the season but Hayden Bombard would lead all scorers with 18 points on the night. Plattsburgh State's Trey Thomas (14) with the hard open ice hit on Norwich's Paul Schmid (19) as they were going after the loose puck. It would be a matchup inside the top of NCAA Division III Men's Hockey at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena as the #4 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host long-time nonconference rival the #12 Norwich Cadets in front of 1300 passionate fans for the midweek tilt. The home Cardinals would waste little time in getting the opening goal of the game just 5:28 into the game on the Josh Belgrave goal. They would stay there till the 3:51 mark of the second period when the Cadets would get the equalizer from Owen Sclisizzi and tie the game at one. Then just about two minutes later the Cadets would forge ahead on the powerplay goal from Clark Kerner for the 2-1 lead. The Cardinals were not going to let the Cadets lead last long as they would score three minutes later and tie the game at two on the Trey Thomas goal. The game would stay there till the 11:33 mark of the third period when the teams would combine for four goals in just over six minutes of action scoring would be Aaron Catroon and Jake Lanyi for the Cardinals Johnny Johnson and Ben Van Waterschoot for the Cadets. From there they would have no more scoring in the final two minutes of regulation and the five minutes of three-on-three for overtime. As the Cardinals would get the tie on the night and go to 15-3-2 on the season as Elli Shiller would make 25 saves on the night. It would be the second meeting of the year for the Saranac Spartans and Plattsburgh Hornets at both their home rinks the Ameri-can North Sports Center in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference. It would take till the midway mark of the first period that the Saranac Spartans would take the lead on the Landon Giroux goal to give the Spartans the 1-0 lead. Then with just about 3:30 left in the opening period, the Spartans would double their lead on the Landon Duprey goal and that's how the first period would end. Then again about halfway through the second period the Spartans would strike and take a 3-0 on Landon Giroux's second goal of the game. However, the underdog Hornets would not go quite down three they would score at the 1112 mark of the period on a turnover in front of the net that Ben Beizo would slam away for the goal to make it a 3-1 game. Then just about 90 seconds later the Hornets would strike again this time from Braeden Calkins to make it a one-goal game at 3-2 and that's how the second period was. In the third period, the Spartans would waste little time regaining the two-goal lead at 4-2 on the second Landon Duprey goal of the night at the 4:37 mark. Then at the ten-minute mark of the third Landon Giroux would score to complete his hat trick and make it a 5-2 game. Then with just about two minutes left in the game, Ashytn Caitlin would score on the powerplay as the Spartans would secure the 6-2 victory. In the winning effort, Mason Patnode would make 24 saves as the Spartans go to 8-6-1 on the season as they head to Lake George region for a pair of games this weekend. Beekmantown's Zach Lapier (19) would come in on a snip it by the goalie as part of a multiple-goal game. It would be a nonsectional matchup in NYSPHSAA Boy's Hockey action as the #10 Beekmantown Eagles would host the Potsdam Sandstoners at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. The Eagles would get the opening goal of the game just 36 seconds into the game on the Edward Sweenor goal. From there they would be off to the races as they would add five more goals in the period with Novak Jarus (twice), Pryce Parker, Caden Columbus, and Zach Lapier. The Sandstoners would be able to light the lamp once with a goal by Ryan Charlebois as the period would end with the Eagles leading 6-1. In the second period, the Eagles would stay hot as they added another three goals as Zach Lapier (the second of the night), Novak Jarus (the second of the night), and Sam Bingel would score as the Eagles took the 9-1 lead. In the third period, the teams would be going through the motions as the outcome was a long time ago determined and the Sandstoners would win the period 3-2 but the Eagles would hold on for the 11-4 win Eagles go to 12-2 and the Sandstoners fall to 2-11 on the season. The #3 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Williams Ephs from the NESCAC in their last nonconference of the season at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena in front of 400 loud fans. It would be a very evenly matched affair on a Saturday afternoon with both teams having their chances to take control of the game early. In the end, there would only be one goal scored on this Saturday afternoon with that going to Emily Kasprzak at the 5:22 mark of the second period. From there defense would be the name of the game with Lilla Nease making 31 saves for the shutout win as the Cardinals go to 19-2-1 on the season. It would be a trip up to Lake Placid and the home of the 1980 and 1932 Winter Olympic games as the Saranac Spartans would face off with the upstart Saranac Lake Lake Placid Lakers at the Jack Shea 1932 Rink. They would be back and forth through the first ten of games and the teams would have their chances. The Spartans would finally break through with the opening goal of the game at the 10:09 period when Gabe Moore would get the Spartans on the board. The game would stay there till the second period when the Spartans would extend their lead to 2-0 on the Landen Duprey goal at the 1:23 mark. The Spartans would look to take control of the game of the game as Landen Duprey would strike again and the Spartans would take a 3-0 lead 5 minutes into the second period. The Lakers would keep fighting throughout the period and break through and break up the shutout at the 10;41 mark of the period when Kellen Duffy would score and make it a 3-1 game. The game would stay there the rest of the period and till the 9:36 mark of the third period, Adrian Barmes would score and make it a 4-1 game. Then with 2:30 left in the game, the Spartans would put the icing on the cake as Brody MaCombwe would score and the Saranac Spartans secured the 5-1 win. In the winning effort, Shawn McLane would make 23 saves as they go to 7-6-1 on the season while the Lakers fall to 3-7-1 on the season. It would be a nonconference battle within the top ten of the country in women's hockey as the #3 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the #6 Middlebury Panthers at the Ronald Stafford Ice Arena in front of 350 fans in a midweek tilt. The game would be very tight through the first period both teams would have their chances to get on the board but the scoreboard would still be blank after the end of the period. In the second period, it would start the same. The Cardinals would break through and get the opening goal of the game at the 4:54 mark of the second period on a goal from Zsofia Pazmandi for the 1-0 lead. The game would stay there till the last 100 seconds of the period when the Cardinals would take the 2-0 lead on the Ivy Boric goal. The Panthers would answer right back a minute later and get the game back within one on the Molly McQueen goal to make it a 2-1 game. In the winning effort for the Cardinals Lilla Nease would make 20 saves for the win as they go to 15-2-1 on the season and will be back in action at home this Saturday against Williams College.
