Plattsburgh State's Emily Kaspzak (22) with the lone goal game on the scramble in front of the net. The #3 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Williams Ephs from the NESCAC in their last nonconference of the season at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena in front of 400 loud fans. It would be a very evenly matched affair on a Saturday afternoon with both teams having their chances to take control of the game early. In the end, there would only be one goal scored on this Saturday afternoon with that going to Emily Kasprzak at the 5:22 mark of the second period. From there defense would be the name of the game with Lilla Nease making 31 saves for the shutout win as the Cardinals go to 19-2-1 on the season. The Cardinals will hit the road next weekend for a pair of games against Canton Kangaroos. Gallery

Saranac Spartans @ Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers January 24th 2024

Saranac's Landen Duprey (89) slides it past the stretched-out Lakers goalie for one of his two goals on the night. It would be a trip up to Lake Placid and the home of the 1980 and 1932 Winter Olympic games as the Saranac Spartans would face off with the upstart Saranac Lake Lake Placid Lakers at the Jack Shea 1932 Rink. They would be back and forth through the first ten of games and the teams would have their chances. The Spartans would finally break through with the opening goal of the game at the 10:09 period when Gabe Moore would get the Spartans on the board. The game would stay there till the second period when the Spartans would extend their lead to 2-0 on the Landen Duprey goal at the 1:23 mark. The Spartans would look to take control of the game of the game as Landen Duprey would strike again and the Spartans would take a 3-0 lead 5 minutes into the second period. The Lakers would keep fighting throughout the period and break through and break up the shutout at the 10;41 mark of the period when Kellen Duffy would score and make it a 3-1 game. The game would stay there the rest of the period and till the 9:36 mark of the third period, Adrian Barmes would score and make it a 4-1 game. Then with 2:30 left in the game, the Spartans would put the icing on the cake as Brody MaCombwe would score and the Saranac Spartans secured the 5-1 win. In the winning effort, Shawn McLane would make 23 saves as they go to 7-6-1 on the season while the Lakers fall to 3-7-1 on the season. The Saranac Spartans will be back in action at home on January 26th against the Plattsburgh Hornets while the Lakers will be playing the Northeastern Clinton Cougars. Gallery.

#6 Middlebury Panthers @ #3 Plattsburgh State Cardinals January 23rd 2024

Plattsburgh State's Zsofia Pazmandi (37) with the goal as she fakes out the goalie and slides it across the line the score. It would be a nonconference battle within the top ten of the country in women's hockey as the #3 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the #6 Middlebury Panthers at the Ronald Stafford Ice Arena in front of 350 fans in a midweek tilt. The game would be very tight through the first period both teams would have their chances to get on the board but the scoreboard would still be blank after the end of the period. In the second period, it would start the same. The Cardinals would break through and get the opening goal of the game at the 4:54 mark of the second period on a goal from Zsofia Pazmandi for the 1-0 lead. The game would stay there till the last 100 seconds of the period when the Cardinals would take the 2-0 lead on the Ivy Boric goal. The Panthers would answer right back a minute later and get the game back within one on the Molly McQueen goal to make it a 2-1 game. In the winning effort for the Cardinals Lilla Nease would make 20 saves for the win as they go to 15-2-1 on the season and will be back in action at home this Saturday against Williams College. Plattsburgh State's Josh Belgrave (10) drops to a knee and slams his second goal away on the night as the Cardinals take a 6-2 lead. The #5 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would welcome the Morrisville State Mustangs to the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena for a SUNYAC Men's Hockey game as they would celebrate Burghys 43rd birthday with 1700 of his closest friends. The Mustangs would not be very good house guests as they would take the quick 1-0 lead just 4:15 into the game on the Robert Haak goal. The Cardinals wouldn't waste time in getting the equalizer as they would score at the 7:00 minute mark on the Adam Tretowicz goal and tie the game at one. Then the Cardinal offense would come alive as they would score four goals in just under four minutes to take the 5-0 lead scoring for the Cardinals would be Josh Belgrave, Adam Tretowicz (second of the night), Tio D'Addario, and Luk Jirousek. The Mustangs would answer back just 11 seconds into the second period on Trevor Neumann's goal to make it a 5-2 game. The game would stay there till the 11:49 mark of the second period when the Cardinals would regain their four-goal lead at 6-2 on the Paul Bryer goal. Then with just 18 seconds left in the period the Cardinals would score again on the Josh Belgrave goal his second of the night to make it a 7-2 game. The Cardinals would put the icing on the cake just 14 seconds into the third period when Bennett Stockdale would score and secure the 8-2 victory. In the winning effort, the Cardinals Jacob Hearne and Dominik Bovan would combine for 17 saves as they went to 14-3 on the season. The Cardinals will be back in action next weekend as it will be the first of three straight weekends on the road as they head to Geneseo and Brockport. Gallery

Plattsburgh State's Mae Olshaney (18) with the rebound goal to give the Cardinals the 4-0 lead. It would be the second game of a two-game series for the Buffalo State Bengals as they would travel to the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena to take on the #4 Plattsburgh State Cardinals in SUNYAC Women's Hockey and celebrate the 43rd birthday of Burghy the Cardinals mascot. The game would be played very evenly through the first period as the Cardinals would have the lone goal of the period with just over two minutes left on the Emma McClean goal. However in the second period, the Cardinals would find their offense and they would go on a stretch of four goals in a span of 5:25 in the middle of the period with the goals coming from Mattie Norton, Emily Kasprzak, Mae Olshansky, and Taya Balfour and take the commanding 5-0 lead after the second period. From there defenses on both teams would stand tall as there was no scoring the rest of the game. However, that would not be for a lack of effort by the Cardinals as they would finish with a season-high 68 shots on net. The Cardinals go to 14-2-1 on the season and clinched the SUNYAC Women's Hockey first regular season title in conference history and Lila Nease would have another shutout. It will be a quick turnaround for the Lady Cardinals as they will be back in action Tuesday night in a non-conference tilt against long-time rival Middlebury in a game that was postponed a couple of weeks ago due to bad weather. Fayetteville Manlius Hornets @ Saranac Spartans January 20th 2024

Saranac's Landen Duprey (88) with the opening goal of the game to give the Spartans the 1-0 lead. It would be the second straight night the Saranac Spartans would be hosting a team from central New York and this time it would be division 1 Fayetteville Manlius Hornets at the A.C. North Sports Center. The game would be very physical at times but mostly clean hitting and the first period would be very even as there would be no scoring in the opening period. The first goal could come about halfway through the second period on the rebound goal by Landen Duprey to make it a 1-0 game. That is where the game would remain until the 6:20 mark of the third period when Brody McComber would get the goals as it tipped off the goal glove and in. The Hornets would do their best to make it interesting down the stretch as they would score with just over seven minutes left in the game on the Joey Leveroni goal to make it 2-1. However, in the closing minute of the game, the Spartans would put the game away with an empty net goal to secure the 3-1 win and even up their record at 6-6-1 and will be back in action January 24th as they go on the road to take on the Saranac Lake Lake Placid Lakers January 24th. Greece Storm @ Saranac Spartans January 19th 2023

Greece's Jack Pilgrim (18) with the hard hit on Saranac's Noah Miner (9) that sends him into the boards hard. We would have a little out-of-conference action tonight at Amer-can North Sports Center as the Saranac Spartans would host the Greece Storm from section five from over by Rochester. The Storm would jump out to the 1-0 lead just a minute into the game on the Noah Guntrum goal. However, the Spartans would come right back and tie the game up at the 2:42 mark of the period on the Landen Duprey goal. The game would stay there till the last 1:30 of the period when Noah Miner would score to give the Spartans the 2-1 lead. The Spartans would come out in the second period firing and expand the lead to 3-1 on the Ashtyn Catlin goal at the 4:45 mark of the period. The Storm wouldn't go away and they would make a 3-2 game on the powerplay goal from Jack Pilgram with 2:15 left in the period. The storm would come out in a surge in the third period and tie the game at three on the Mitchell Barnes powerplay goal just 2:48 into the period. The Storm weren't done though as they would keep coming and take the 4-3 lead halfway through the period on the Alan Wilkins goal to make it 4-3 and from there defense would hold the line as the Storm would get the 4-3. In the winning effort, the Greece Storm goes to 5-6-1 and will travel to take on the Northeastern Clinton Cougars. As for the Spartans, they will also be 5-6-1 on the season and will have a matchup tomorrow with the Fayetteville-Manlius. Gallery

Northern Adirondack Bobcats @ Plattsburgh Hornets January 18th 2024

Plattsburgh's Logan Rodriquez (24) with the block from behind on Northern Adirondack's Calvin Magoon (24) on the scoring attempt. It would be Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Basketball action from Plattsburgh as the Hornets would host the Northern Adirondack Bobcats. The game would be tight through the first quarter as the visiting Bobcats would hold the slight lead at 17-16. However, in the second quarter, the Hornets would step up all around with the offense and defense as they would win the quarter 16-4 and take a 32-21 lead into the intermission. When the teams would return for the third quarter the Bobcats would find their game and the quarter would be a lot more even as the Hornets would win the quarter 21-18 and take the 53-39 lead into the fourth. In the fourth quarter, it would be another even one as the Hornets would win it 16-13 to secure the 69-52 victory. In the winning effort, Logan Rodriquez would lead the way in a 15-point game as the Hornets go to 7-2 on the season and the Bobcats fall to 8-3. Gallery

Saranac Spartans @ #10 Beekmantown Eagles January 16th 2024

Beekmantown's Zacxh Lapier with the rebound goal as the Eagles would tie the game in the third period. It would be the rematch from last year's Section VII Boy's Hockey Championship and it would feature the #10 Beekmantown Eagles and the Saranac Spartans the Spartans would be looking to avenge their earlier lost to the Eagles. The game would start well for the home Eagles as they would jump to the early 1-0 lead on the Edward Sweenor goal just 1:21 into the game. However, the Spartans would come back just over three minutes later and tie the game at one on the Landon Duprey goal. Then with 2:30 left in the first period, the Spartans would take the 2-1 lead on the Ashton Caitlin goal. The game would stay there till the 4:53 mark of the second period when the Eagles would come and tie the game at two on the Sam Bingel goal. However, the Spartans would not let the game stay tied long as they would retake the lead at 3-2 on Ashton Caitllin's second goal of the night just 45 seconds later. Then Landon Duprey would score twice for the Spartans with one on the powerplay to take the 5-2 lead. However, the Eagles would not let the period end that way as they would get with 1:32 left in the period as Pryce Parker would score to make it a 5-3 game as they headed to the second intermission. In the third period though the Eagles would come out flying as they would score three times in the first ten minutes of the period all from Zach Lapier to secure the 6-5 Eagles win and go to 9-2 on the season as they head to Saranac Lake Thursday to take on the Lakers while the Spartans fall to 5-5-1 on the season as they will welcome a couple of teams from the Syracuse area to AC North over the weekend. Geneseo State Knights @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals January 13th 2024

Plattsburgh State's Ikechukwu Ezike (5) would take flight on the runner for the score as part of a fourteen-point night. It would be SUNYAC Men's Basketball from Memorial Hall and it would see the Plattsburgh State Cardinals host the Geneseo State Knights. It would be a tight game throughout the first quarter as the Knights would have a slim 39-34 lead at the intermission. When the teams returned for the second half the Cardinals would do their best to keep the game close but they wouldn't have much of an answer for the Knights as they would win the half 41-32 and the Knights would secure the 80-66 victory. Even though it would be a losing effort for the Cardinals Kevin Tabb and Ikechukwu Ezike would have 14 points as the Cardinals fall to 7-7 on the season. Gallery
