The Beekmantown Eagles have been crowned the 2024 Section VII Boy's Hockey Champions for the third straight year and will enter the NYSPHSAA Division 2 Boy's Hockey Tournament. It would be the Section VII Division II Boy's Hockey Championship and it would feature the upset-minded #3 Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers taking on the #1 and top ten state-ranked Beekmantown Eagles from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena in front of nearly a 1000 fans. The Eagles would get on the board early with the Zach Lapier goal at the 3:04 mark of the first period. Lapier and the Beekmantown Eagles would strike again with 2 more goals 41 seconds apart at the 5:38 and 6:19 mark of the first period to give the Beekmantown Eagles the 3-0 lead on the Zach Lapier. With just over 4 minutes left in the opening period, the Eagles would strike again and take the 4-0 lead this time coming from Edward Sweenor. The game would stay that wall to the third period as there was no scoring in the second period and the teams would just go back and forth with each having their chance but were just unable to light the lamp. However, the Eagles would make up for the no scoring in the second period as they would score twice in the first 32 seconds of the third period as Edward Sweenor would score twice to complete his hat trick and give the Eagles the 6-0 lead. Not being outdone by his teammate Zach Lapier would strike again for his fourth on the night just 39 seconds later and the Eagles now led 7-0. Then with just over ten minutes left in the game, Edward Sweenor would strike to even back up with Zach Lapier who have four goals each to make it an 8-0 lead for the Eagles. Then 6:38 left in the game the other Lapier kid on the team Carter LaPier would score and take the 9-0 lead and win as the Beekmantown Eagles were crowned the 2024 Section VII Champions and will play the Queensbury Spartans in the Quarterfinals of the NYSPHSAA Division 2 Tournament on March 2nd in Queensbury, New York with the winner headed to Buffalo, New York, and the State Frozen Four. Plattsburgh State's Julia Massotta (7) with the breakaway goal to finish off a four-goal game in the win. It would be time for the playoffs in the first year of the SUNYAC Women's Hockey as the #1 seeded Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the #4 Morrisville State Mustangs in the semi-finals from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena with 570 passionate fans in attendance. The home Cardinals would waste little time getting out to the lead as they would take the 1-0 lead 5:40 into the game on the Julia Masotta goal. Then the Cardinals would expand their lead to 2-0 at the 10:31 mark of the period on Julia Masotta's second goal of the game. The game would stay there till the 3:30 mark of the second period when Ciara Wall would score on the powerplay to make it 3-0. Then with a second left in the period the Cardinals Julia Masotta would complete her hat trick to give the Cardinals the 4-0 lead after the second period. The game would stay there till there was 3:59 left in the game when Hailee Easson would score for the Mustangs to break up the shutout and make it a 4-1 game. However, the Cardinals would answer right back 57 seconds later to make it a 5-1 game and win on Julia Masotta's fourth goal of the afternoon. The Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers celebrate as they get the 7-4 upset Saranac Spartans and go to the Section VII Hockey Championship. It would be the second semi-final of the night in the Section VII Boy's Hockey Tournament as the #3 Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers would travel to Plattsburgh and the Amer-Can North Sports Center and take on the #2 seeded Saranac Spartans with the winner getting the #1 Beekmantown Eagles for a sectional title. The favorite Saranac Spartans would get the opening goal of the game at the 9:24 mark of the first period on the Landon Duprey goal to make it 1-0. The Spartans wouldn't waste time making it 2-0 15 seconds later on the Ryan Campbell goal. Then with just 22 seconds left in the period, the Spartans would jump out to a 3-0 lead on the Evan Patrie goal. The Lakers would come out firing and make it a 3-1 game 41 seconds into the second period on the Evan Willette goal. The Lakers would stay hot and make it a one-goal game at the 5:20 mark of the period on the powerplay goal of Adrian McCormick. Then within a 2:27 stretch in the second period, the Lakers would explode for three goals to take a 5-3 lead with goals from Evan Willette, Will Landerault, and Adrian McCormick. The Spartans would answer back with 36 seconds left in the second period on the Ashtyn Caitlin goal to make it a one-goal game at 5-4 at the end of the second period. The game would stay there till the 10:45 mark of the third period when the Lakers's Kyle Duffy would score to make it a 6-4 Lakers lead from there the defense would clinch down and they would add an empty netter from Evan Willette for the hat trick and the 7-4 victory. It would be the semi-finals from the Section VII Boy's Hockey and it would see the #1 Beekmantown Eagles hosting the #5 Plattsburgh Hornets at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena for the right to play for the sectional title on Monday evening. The favor Beekmantown Eagles would get off to a good start as they would score twice in the first period from Sam Bingel and they would have a 2-0 lead at the end of the first. In the second period, the Eagles would get another couple of goals this time from Ryan Demers and Sam Bingel and Bingel would get the hat trick as the Eagles extended their lead to 4-0. In the third period, the Eagles would put the exclamation point on the game as they would add another three goals from Zach Lapier, Braden Nephew, and Pryce Parker as the Eagles got the 7-0 win and advanced to Section VII Boy's Hockey Finals against the winner of the Saranac Spartans and Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals celebrate their game-winning goal in overtime over the Potsdam State Bears as they would advance to the Semi-finals and the Oswego State Lakers. It would be the start of the SUNYAC Men's Hockey tournament and the first-round game would see the #3 seed Plattsburgh State Cardinals hosting their north country rivals the #6 Potsdam State Bears in front of 1500 passionate fans. The Cardinals would get the opening goal of the game at the midway point of the first period on the Bennett Stockdale goal to give the Cardinals the 1-0 lead. The Beas would come back and tie the game with 4:45 left in the period on the Ryan Mahlmeister goal. The game would stay there until the 10:54 mark of the second period when the Cardinals would regain the lead at 2-1 on the Luk Jirousek goal. The Bears would once again come back and tie the game with 12 seconds left in the second period on the Jack Loran powerplay goal. The game would go into the third period tied at two where nothing would be settled on the night and there would be a need for overtime. It would take til there was 5:37 left in the first overtime when Bennett Stockdale would score to send the faithful hope happy with the 3-2 win. In the winning effort, the Plattsburgh State Cardinals will advance to the SUNYAC Semi-finals and take on longtime rival the #2 seed Oswego State Lakers. Norwich's Jase Stapleford (13) with the hard hit on Plattsburgh State's Ryan Weaver (34) clearing out the crease as he got the shot on net. It would be the season opener for the home Plattsburgh State Cardinals as they would long-time school rival in all sports the Norwich Cadets on a brisk day at the Cardinal Complex on campus. The game would start tight through the first quarter as the Cadets would have the 4-2 lead after the first quarter scoring for the Cardinals would be Donald Woods and Tim Keenan. In the second quarter the Cadets would start to take control of the game with the 6-2 quarter and have a 10-4 lead at the break and scoring for the Cardinals again would be Donald Woods and Tim Keenan. When the teams would return for the third quarter it would be a very even game as it would be a 3-3 quarter making a 13-7 quarter scoring for the Cardinals would be Donald Woods (third of the game), Josh Eiseman, and Tim Keenan (third of the game). In the fourth quarter the Cadets would take control of the game and put the icing on the cake with a 5-2 quarter scoring for the Cardinals would be Anthony Faber and John Eiseman (second of the night) as the Cadets would get the 18-9 win. With the win, the Norwich Cadets start their season 1-0 while the Plattsburgh State Cardinals will go to 0-1 as they head to their next game against Mount St. Mary's. Gallery

Plattsburgh's Dan Hartman (11) with the wide-open three from the corner. It would be the last game of the regular season for both the Plattsburgh Hornets and the #1 Moriah Vikings as they would host them at the Hornets Nest in front of a full nest. The Hornets would not be a very good host to the Moriah Vikings as they would jump out and take control of the game with a 28-7 first quarter. In the second quarter, the Vikings would look to get back in the game with a 17-11 quarter although the Hornets would take the 39-24 lead into the intermission. When the teams would return for the second half the third quarter would be very evenly contested as the Hornets would have the slim 21-18 quarter and expand their lead to 60-42 into the fourth quarter. In that fourth quarter, the Vikings would do their best to get back in the game with a 12-7 quarter but it wouldn't be enough as the Hornets would get the 67-54 victory. In the winning effort, the Hornets would go to 12-5 while the Vikings would fall to 17-2 on the season. Gallery

Plattsburgh State's Jake Layani (37) with the tying goal in the third period as the Cardinals get three unanswered to get the win. It would be the start of the last weekend of regular season games from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena and the #5 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would be looking to avenge one of their four losses on the season as they would host the Buffalo State Bengals and make the push for the number 2 seed in the upcoming SUNYAC Conference Tournament. The Bengals would be looking to get the sweep of the Cardinals on the season and get off to a quick start as they would score just 2:53 into the game on the Anthony Morin goal. The game would stay there till there were five minutes left in the second period when the Cardinals would get the equalizer on the Kevin Weaver Vitale powerplay goal to make it a 1-1 game. The Bengals would regain the one-goal lead at 2-1 on the Joe Glamos powerplay goal. The lead would be short-lived though as the Cardinals would tie the game up 75 seconds later on the Jake Layni goal The Cardinals would get their first lead of the game at the 12:31 mark of the third period when Ryan Butler would score to give the Cardinals would get the lead at 3-2. Then with 3:30 left in the game, the Cardinals would extend their lead to 4-2 on the Trey Thomas goal. Then the closing minute of the game the Cardinals would put the icing on the cake with Ryan Butler's empty net goal. In the winning effort, Jacob Hearne would make 20 saves on the night as the Cardinals would go to 18-4-2 on the season as they head into the season finale against Fredonia State Blue Devils Saturday afternoon. Beekmantown's Zach Lapier (19) slides it by the out-stretched toe of Northeastern Clinton's Caden Badger (33) as part of a four-goal game. It would be the last regular season game for the #8 Beekmantown Eagles as they would host the Northeastern Clinton Cougars at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena on senior night. It would just take 2:27 into the game before we had our first goal from Novak Jarus for the Eagles to give them the early 1-0 lead. The Cougars would come right back and tie the game up at one on the Eddie Bulriss goal just two minutes later. About halfway through the period, the Eagles would retake the lead on the shorthanded goal by Zach Lapier to make it a 2-1 game. The Cougars would answer the bell right back just 20 seconds later on the Wayne Simpson goal to tie the game at two. The Eagles come out swinging in the second period and take the 3-2 lead just seven into the period on the Louis Sweenor goal. The Eagles would stay on fire as they would score again just 1:20 later as Novak Jarus would get his second goal of the game to make it a 4-2 game. The Cougars would come back again and make it a one-goal again on the Wayne Simpson second of the evening to make it a 4-3 game. The game would stay there till the 6:27 mark of the third period when Owen Ebersol would tie the game for the Cougars at four. The Eagles from there would take control of the game as they would get three unanswered goals from Louis Sweenor (two) and Zach Lapier as the Eagles secured the 7-4 win. In the winning effort, the Eagles would finish off the sectional season with a perfect 8-0 record and the regular season at 17-3 while the Northeastern Clinton Cougars fall to 4-14-1 on the season. Boquet Valley's Ella Lobdell (15) celebrates with the Griffins faithful as she enters the 1,000-points club. It would be a matchup inside the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference of Section VII Girl's Basketball in Plattsburgh as the Seton Catholic Knights would host the Boquet Valley Griffins in a rematch of the Section VII Class D Finals from a year ago that took place about 5 miles down the road. The game would be low-scoring through the opening eight minutes as the home Knights would have the 9-8 lead. In the second quarter, the scoring would stay low as the defense would still stand tall as the Griffins would win the quarter 9-6 and take the 17-15 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter it would be another great defensive quarter as the Knights would get the 6-5 quarter but the Griffins would still have the 22-21 lead as they went to the fourth. In the fourth quarter, there would be a milestone that would be reached as Ella Lobdell would be the newest member of the 1,000-point club and from there it would seem like both teams had a major weight lifted off them as the Griffins would end up winning the quarter 16-11 which would be half the team's points in that quarter alone. The Griffins would get the 38-32 win and go to 12-7 on the season as they head into the playoffs as the Knights fall to 9-11 on the season. Gallery
