It would be a matchup inside the mountain valley athletic conference as the Seton Catholic Knights would be hosting the Schroon Lake Wildcats and the home Knights would be looking to ride their mid-season surge but they would have to do it against the top team in the conference. The game would not start off well for the home Knights as the Wildcats would get off to a quick start and have a 14-7 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the teams would be more equal but the Wildcats would still have the edge with an 11-8 quarter and take a 25-15 lead into the locker room. When the teams returned for the second half the offenses on both sides would keep their game going all although the Wildcats would have a 14-13 quarter and take a 39-28 into the 3rd quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Wildcats would start to walk away with the game as the leader for Knights Aidan Pearl would get hurt and the Wildcats would have an 18-4 quarter to secure the 57-32 victory. In the winning effort the Wildcats go to 8-1 on the season and will play Fort Edwards next will the Knights fall to 4-7 and will wait for the Boquet Valley Griffins to right the ship righted. Plattsburgh's Max Filosca (5) drives through the defenders and throws the off-balance layup off the window for the score. It would be the classic rivalry inside the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host the Peru Nighthawks in Boy's Basketball action. Both teams were looking for their first win of the season inside the conference didn't make the competition any less exciting. It would start off great for the home Hornets as their offense was firing on all cylinders and would have a 24-10 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the teams would be more equal although the Hornets would still be able to extend their lead with a 13-9 quarter and take a 37-19 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the second half the offense for the Hornets would stay hot as they would have a 19-11 quarter and take the commanding lead into the 4th quarter at 56-30. In the fourth quarter, the Hornets would take their foot off the gas as they would finish out the game with an 11-9 quarter for the Nighthawks but the Hornets would have a comfortable lead and get the 65-41 victory. In the winning effort, the Hornets go to 3-6 on the season as they travel to Ausable Valley on Friday as the Nighthawks fall to 1-9 on the season. Gallery

Seton Catholic's Aiden Peal (22) drives through the defense and lays it off the window for the basket as the Knights pad their lead. It would be a matchup inside the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference as the Seton Catholic Knights would host the Willsboro Warriors in boy's basketball action. The game would start off well for the home Knights as they would jump out to a double-digit lead after the first quarter with a 16-6 lead. In the second quarter, the Warriors would come steaming back with a run of their own to make a game of it for the second half with a 16-9 quarter but would still trail 27-22 as they went into halftime. When the teams returned for the second half the third quarter would be a tight one as the physical style of the game would start to pick up and the Knights would win the quarter 12-10 and take a 39-32 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Knights would find they're reshot and blow the game open with a 16-6 quarter and secure the 55-38 victory. In the winning effort, the Knights go to 4-6 on the season and will play the Schroon Lake Wildcats on January 19th while the Willsboro Warriors fall to 1-8 on the season. Gallery

#2 Beekmantown Eagles Vs #14 Saranac Chiefs January 16th 2023

The Beekmantown Eagles celebrate their hard-fought victory to stay atop the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference standings. It would be standing room only at the Amer-can North Sports Complex tonight as it would be a match-up of a pair of teams ranked inside the top 15 in the state as the #14 Saranac Chiefs Chiefs coming in on 6 games winning streak hosting the #2 Beekmantown Eagles that came in unbeaten on the season. It would take till the 6-minute mark of the first period before we had our first goal between these two high-spirited teams when Sam Bingel would light the lamp twice in that minute to give the Eagles the 2-0 lead. Then at the 9:25 mark of the period the Chiefs would get on the board when Evan Patrie would hit the rebound goal to make it a 2-1 game. Although the one-goal game would be short-lived as Keegan Seemone would score thirty seconds later to make it a two-goal lead again for the Eagles. The Chiefs would not end out the period strong as Landen Duprey would score twice to end the period and the teams would go into the locker room tied at three. The Chiefs would keep the train moving as they would score just 3:36 into the second period to give them their first lead of the game at 4-3 on the Nolan Miner goal. Then at about the midway mark of the period, Zach O'Connell will score to give the Chiefs the 5-3 lead. The game would stay there til the 14-minute mark of the period when Sam Bingel (hat trick) and Zach Lapier would score to tie the game at five as they went into the second intermission. When the teams returned for the third period the Eagles would be riding their excitement as they would take the 6-5 lead at the 5:36 mark of the period on Sam Bingel's 4th goal of the night. Then with under 90 seconds left in the game, he would strike again for the 7-5, and the Eagles would add an empty netter to secure the 8-5 win. In the winning effort, Austin Doser would make 27 saves as they go to 9-0-1 on the season and the Chiefs fall to 7-2-2 on the season as Joey Mitchell had 25 saves on the night. Both teams will be looking forward to their rematch on February 17th at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena on the last night of the regular season. Gallery

Plattsburgh State's Bennett Stockdale slides in on net using the defender as buffer as he would be lone the scorer on the evening. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would have a single home game on the weekend as they would have Williams Ephs from NESCAC as a yearly non league match up come to the Ronald B Stafford ice Arena. It would be physical and evenly matched game throughout with both teams looking for the upper hand in the match. It would take all the way till there was 3:30 left in the second period before we would have are first goal on the night and it would come from Plattsburgh State's Bennett Stockdale to give the Cardinals the 1-0 lead. That is where the game would remain until the final minute of the game when Bennett Stockdale would seal the game away with the empty netter to give the Cardinals the 2-0 win in front of 1,100 fans. In the winning effort Eli Shiller would make 26 saves in the shutout victory as the Cardinals go to 11-4-2 on the season. The Cardinals will be back in action next weekend as they will head back into conference play as they will meet up with Oswego and Cortland. Gallery

Plattsburgh State's Nicole Unsworth (20) cuts in front of Oswego State's Lexi Levy (1) and put in the back of the net for the goal. It would be the second game of the weekend series between the #3 Plattsburgh State Cardinals and the Oswego State Lakers in Northeast Women's Hockey League action and the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would be looking at the weekend sweep. The Lakers would be looking to end the sweep chances early as they would score 3:40 into the game as Kensie Malone would light the lamp. Although the Cardinals would answer back five minutes later on the Julia Masotta goal to tie the game at one. The game would stay there till the 12:11 mark of the second period when Sara Krauseneck would stuff it in on the short side to give the Cardinals the 2-1 lead. Then at the 3:33 mark of the third period the Cardinals would make it a two-goal lead on the Nicole Unsworth goal at 3-1. Then with 4:16 left in the game, the Cardinals would ice the game away and get the 4-1 victory on the Mae Olshansky goal as the Cardinals would get the weekend sweep. In the winning effort, Lilla Nease would make 21 saves as the Cardinals would go to 14-2 on the season. Next up for the Cardinals will be another NEWHL game on January 20th as they will host the Canton Kangaroos. Gallery

#11 Churchville Chilli Saints @ Saranac Chiefs January 13th 2023

Saranac's Joey Mitchell (30) with the save on the breakaway as part of a 24-save night. The Saranac Chiefs would have a nonleague match-up from Section V tonight as they would host the #11 Churchville-Chilli Saints at the Amer-can North Sports Center. The game would start well for the home Chiefs as they would get the game's opening goal from Nolan Miner just 90 seconds into the contest. The game would stay there all the way till the 4:19 mark of the second period when Max McKay would score on the breakaway for the Saints and make it a 1-1 game. Although the Chiefs would keep coming and coming and under four minutes left in the period they would retake the lead at 2-1 on the Adrian Barnes goal. That's where the game would stay till the last 1:19 of the game when the Chiefs would score as Nolan Miner would get his second goal of the game and extend the Chief's lead to 3-1. Although there wasn't much time left in the game it wouldn't take the fight out of the Saints as they would score with the extra man from Beckham Clancy with four seconds left. The Chiefs would get the 3-2 win on the night behind the 24 saves a night of Joey Mitchell as the Chiefs go to 7-1-2 on the season. The Chiefs will be back in action Monday evening as they take on the top team in the section the Beekmantown Eagles at Ameri-can North Sports Center. Gallery

Plattsburgh State's Lilla Nease (31) with the pad save as part of a 17-save night. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would make their home return for the first time since the Thanksgiving day weekend Buster's Panther/Cardinal Classic as they would face off with NEWHL foe the Oswego State Lakers. The Lakers would be out to spoil the Cardinal's homecoming as they would get the first goal of the game at the 6:02 mark of the first period on the shorthand from Kensie Malone. Then at the 11:47 mark of the period they would look to take control of the game as the Lakers would score on the powerplay from Amanda Zenstein for the 2-0 lead. Although the Cardinals would answer in the final 40 seconds of the period on the powerplay with the Mae Olshansky goal to make it 2-1 Lakers after the first period. In the second period, the Cardinals would get the only goal of the period at the 9:09 mark on the powerplay from Nicole Unsworth to tie the game at two. In the third period, the Cardinals would get the first lead of the game at the 13:22 mark of the period from Sierra Benjamin to make it 3-2. Then with 1:55 left in the game, the Cardinals would extend their lead to 4-2 on the Nicole Unsworth powerplay goal. Although the Lakers would not give up easily as they would score 15 seconds from Avery Webster to make it a 4-3 game. In the winning effort, Lilla Nease would make 17 saves on the night as the Cardinals would go to 13-2 on the season. It would be the battle of the Saranac's as the Saranac Chiefs would face off with the Saranac Lake-Lake Placid Lakers section vii boy's hockey action. It would take till about the halfway mark of the first period for the first goal of the game coming from Landon Duprey at the 8:17 mark of the first period to give the Saranac Chiefs the 1-0 lead. The Chiefs would strike again with 2:30 left in the first period on the Evan Patrie goal to give them the 2-0 lead. The game would stay there till the 3:59 mark of the second period when Landon Duprey for the second goal of the night and take the 3-0. Then just 90 seconds later the Chiefs would score again this time from Adrian Barnes and take the 4-0 lead and stay there for the rest of the period. Then in the third period, the Chiefs would get another tally from Landon Duprey to get his hat-trick goal on the night and take the 5-0 lead. Finally, with ten minutes left in the game, the Lakers would get on the board to break up the shutout at 5-1. Then just to put the icing on the cake with 3:30 left in the game Nolan Miner would score to secure the 6-1 victory. In the winning effort, the Chiefs go to 6-1-2 on the season while the Lakers go to 1-8. Gallery

Tupper Lake Lumberjacks @ Plattsburgh Hornets January 10th 2023

Plattsburgh's Brandon Calkins (12) crashes into the goalie on the breakaway and scores to give the team the lead. It would be a nonleague matchup featuring section vii and section x as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host the Tupper Lake Lumberjacks in Boy's Hockey action. The Plattsburgh Hornets would get the game's opening goal in the early stages of the period and take the 1-0 lead. Then in the final three minutes of the period, the Lumberjacks would tie the game at one. The game would stay there til the 7:30 mark of the second period when the Hornets would regain the lead on the Jace Lacey goal at 2-1. However, the Lumberjacks would fight back and tie the game up at 2 in the final 90 seconds of the period. Then it would be onto the high offense third period where the teams would combine for seven goals. The Lumberjacks would strike first at the 1:29 mark and take the 3-2 lead. Although the lead would be short-lived as the Hornets and Jace Lacey would answer right back 19 seconds later and tie the game at three. Then in a matter of 45 seconds, the Lumberjacks would score twice and take the 5-3 lead. Although the Hornets wouldn't be done as they would score three goals in the final 7 minutes all from Brendan Calkins to secure the 6-5 Hornets win. In the winning effort, the Hornets go to 2-3 while the Lumberjacks fall to 1-8 on the season. Gallery
